I'm usually a H&H customer, but I saw the comments here about the quality of the bagels at BE and thought it was worth a try. In regards to the food...the bagels are very good. Very good flavor and density. Nice job. I tried the lox spread and have to say "don't". It was overly salty and the quality of the lox used was pretty low. I don't expect the highest quality Nova in a spread, but this was really bad. Stick with butter or plain cream cheese. In terms of the service...pretty funny. No exaggeration, there were 7, yes 7, people working behind the counter yet only one order was being worked on at a time. There was 2 people before me and it took close to 5 minutes for them to take my order. There were 2 people working on the same cup of coffee. One was pouring in the coffee and the other was nudging in putting milk in the cup. It was pretty funny to see.

Man, these are the best bagels I've ever had. Too bad the guys behind the counter are so awful. They can only do one order at a time so lines go out the door even when they're not very busy. Sometimes there will be five people behind the counter and no one helping customers. When they do help they are slow and rude. If you're going to go, go during off-hours when they are less busy. The food is amazing, if only you could get it.

I've been a fan of this establishment until recently. I can't deny that their bagels are tasty but their service up until now is horrible. I had an experience where I ordered a sandwich, as I do on many ocassions, but this time was different. The bread that my sandwich was prepared on was stale. When I asked that they simple change the bread, the server refused. I immediately asked for a refund. With much attitude given to me, I got my money back. But, I didn't give up on my favorite bagel place. I went back a few days later and the server was downright nasty. When I asked if he could tell me if the bread was fresh, he said it was no good. Then, when I asked to see the manager, he said there was no manager there that I could talk to. I've gone back several times and got the run around when I asked to talk to someone in charge. All in all this was a good place gone bad. They will never see my money again.

I am a bagel snob hailing from Brooklyn. I actually used to head over to Brooklyn for my bagels for months after moving into the neighborhood. Until I found Bagel Express. The servers are very friendly. Even when they got my order wrong (realizing this after I got home and tromped back) they were very apologetic and sincere. The bagel and spread choices are plentiful.

This is a great bagel place with very nice people. They will give you free cookies if it's your birthday.
