    Nice Place

I like eating here. The staff is very friendly and the dining room is spacious and inviting. I've tried just about everything on the menu, even the $24 roasted chicken. The trout was great, everything else was just ok.

    mediocre food but great vibe

great addition to the east village even though the food was so so. the owners are super friendly. atmosphere is warm and fun. but they didn't impress me on the food front. the shrimp tempura appetizer was inedible. not sure why the chef thinks it's ok to throw an uncleaned shrimp (head, tail, legs, not even deveined!) in batter and serve. all you could taste of the the delicata squash tempura was the batter - it could have been any veggie in there. and the smoked paprika had no punch. the only stand out was the burger (which i will get again next time) although sadly the fries were soggy. All that said, it's reasonably priced, which is increasingly hard to find, and is a warm place so I will definitely be back. Just don't expect to be blown away by the food (or the wine list which is pretty weak)!

    Stellar - Casual

This restaurant has never disappointed me the many times I've been there. I'm not sure where a few of these not so glowing reviews are coming from. You simply can't go wrong at this place. It's excellent with a great crowd.

    eat at the bar

Tables were full when we got there, so we ate at the bar. Very cool space, mural behind bar, backlit bottles, warm wood bartop. Definitely a nice place to eat or just hang. Interesting cocktails, I had the house cocktail which was yummy, my date liked the beers. Food... sausage and fish were very good, liked the brussel sprouts, loved the cauliflower. Wanted a second helping but we were too stuffed. Bill came to $60 which I thought very reasonable for what we got. Nice addition to the neighborhood.

    Disappointng Brunch

I must qualify this review by stating it was the first day they offered Sunday Brunch. We read an amazing review about this place in New York mag and thus had some expectations. Unfortunately we were very disappointed. The appetizer was deep-fried and had no discernible flavor . My baked eggs and my boyfriends' sausage were both undercooked. The patrons sitting to our left also had problems with undercooking and left their main course untouched. Hopefully the owners will be able to work out the problems in the kitchen. However, as everything is a la carte and therefore came to the price of an amazing brunch at Blue Water Grill, it is doubtful we will waste more money on finding this out.

Raising the bar on Avenue B

Back Forty has an elegant, easy feeling. More Soho than Avenue B. Exceptional A++ burger, great BLT, crab roll, inventive side orders - parsnips with anchovy and the green wheat salad with yogurt were our favs. The apps & sides are small, the salads are regular sized, the spice rubbed, rotisserie chicken easily serves 3 and is $24. Sharing is the strategy here. Dessert was a phenomenal pie with vanilla gelato. House drinks are creative and there are good beer choices. As a neighborhood person, I am so happy for another good food choice, and a different environment to enjoy. Oh yeah! Soundtrack was great! Looking forward to the patio and brunch.

    Wonderful Meal

Had an excellent meal the other night at Back forty. I was concerned that they took no reservations, so arrived around 7:00 and only had a 20 minute wait. We sat at the bar and enjoyed some creative cocktails before being seated at our comrfortable table. Our service was friendly and quick. Now for the food. The food was incredible. My date and I were raving about everything that touched our mouth. Delicious! I would highly recommend the restaurant to others. Try the Cauliflour.
