Unfortunate Experience
I hate to write reviews like this but an experience like last night makes me want to warn other restaurant goers. Our party of 4 arrived for our 7pm reservation on time. We waited an additional 30 minutes--the bartender was very nice to us. The reason we had to wait was there were 2 HUGE groups of people in the back and our table of 4 was occupied by people going to an 8pm show at BAM, who decided to take their time to leave. Now none of this is the restaurant's fault. What they should have done though, is foreseen that these large parties might be loud, suggest we wait for a table in the front and seat us immediately. Instead they sat us in the back with both loud crowds screaming 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY' and flashing cameras. I couldn't even hear the waitress ask which kind of water we wanted. After 45 minutes, of waiting in this loud uncomfortable space we had to leave. I'm sure the food is delicious--I could smell every dish as they passed by the bar. The bartender was kind enough to comp our drinks that we had while we waited so I don't doubt the rest of the service people are friendly. I'm sincerely hope that this was a fluke but if want something relaxed, delicious and attentive service, go next door to Rothchild's.

The best in Brooklyn
My boyfriend and I made the best choice ever tonight and that was to stop here. It has the best food, good prices and the waiter was so nice and respectful. I love this place and I would recommend this to anyone who's looking for a romantic but affordable evening . I LOVE IT

Quite good!
I was a little wary of going to Bacchus after reading some of the reviews, but we had a very good meal. They may have hired a new chef and new servers in the last six months. Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable and very sweet. The escargot were surprisingly good for a Brooklyn restaurant. The hanger steak was cooked perfectly and came with a nice mushroom sauce (though a little too creamy). The mussels were yummy and the tarte tatin was a perfect note to end on. Pre fixe for $25 is a good deal. Wines left a little to be desired, but they were decently priced. Will be back!

Appaling
The poorest lamb shank in my life, ordinarily you'd have had to pay me to eat it, thickly charred, dry tough. Would have sent it back, but it was not diplomatic given the company I was with. The others all left most of their food. I can only assume it was the chef's night off and the dish-cleaner, or some such had taken over the cooking.

Nice decor, food not memorable
I went there last night for my husband's birthday. The decor was nice - low lights, good music. The service was pretty good (they gave us a round of champagne for free since we were celebrating). We had the duck sprong rolls as an appetizer- good amount of meat but not enough flavor. My chicken special was ok and his lamd was very tender but underseasoned. Dessert (chocolate cake) was very good. We will go back and give it another chance

great food, but service and ambience questionable
Great food, but the service is "European" and the ambience on the patio is hit-or-miss. we went for dinner on a sat night and sat in the garden patio area. (1) service - true to its french roots, the staff are very friendly and helpful when they get to you, but will completely leave you alone if you don't flag anyone down. more than 30 minutes passed after our food was served before anyone came by to check on us. at another table, the staff seemed to know the guest well, brought them candles and stopped by their table about every 5 minutes. meanwhile, our wine glasses were empty and our romantic eve would have been lovely with a candle on our table as well. culturally different, we had to get up and walk to the bar to ask our server to stop by our table. (2) ambience - the patio has a ping-pong table. yes, a ping-pong table. not exactly a lovely complement to a romantic evening when people are playing ping-pong while you try to enjoy a glass of wine and conversation. once the ping-pong players left, my headache went away and was able to enjoy the meal. otherwise, the food was spectacular and the prices reasonable.

Pinch Us
We were in Brooklyn, not the French countryside, right? This is the place! Totally undecided whether next trip will try another of the THREE! mussel items or move on to dinner. Look at their wine list. True "oldies but goodies" at great prices. House wines equally great. A true bistro that doesn't try to reach beyond what it is with typical NYC ostentation, (sorry) but lives up to every expectation superbly.
