    Dreaming of the pumpkin luna

I went here for my birthday in July and have been dreaming of the pumpkin luna ever since. Their assortment of sorbets is adorable and tastes like it was made seconds ago.

Great food, great service, great value!

Never thought I would fall that much for an "in-place". I went there because my girlfriend got us a reservation. Had modest expectations, assuming the hype around the food was over-blown and it would be a pretentious atmosphere. I LOVE that place! The food was delicious, service great and the wine superb (served full glasses for the wine pairing!)!

Walked Right in and Treated Like Kings

My friends and I showed up just minutes after 5 on a weeknight. We had showtimes just up the road at the comedy cellar to see little jimmy norton. Thought we might have to eat in the bar area but since we're from out of town we thought it would still work for a special dinner. Our luck was there was a cancelation. We hit the jackpot. Food was Great. I highly recommend the following if its still on the menu. Black Pepper Papardelle with Wild Boar Ragu, Goose Liver Ravioli with Balsamic Vinigar reduction (and I usually HATE goose liver but this was wonderful), and the braised beef with wild mushrooms. If you're around for dessert you MUST have the fig cake dessert.

    Definitely worth the 1-month wait

I had dinner at Babbo last Saturday. The food was amazing and the waiters very attentive and approachable, just really nice. I also liked the atmosphere very much. We were seated on the 2nd floor and it was very romantic (candles, etc). It is amazing how the cooks can make pasta taste that great! This place is definitely worth waiting for! And it won't even cost you a fortune. The best Italian in town. Just amazing!

Great place, not worth a month's wait

Went there last night, a month in the making. They state that the largest party they will take is 6; that's fine. I reserved a table for 6 a month in advance. I triple confirmed the reservation. When we were lead to our table, I only saw 5 chairs and settings. I was stunned! You know I have 6 people and you lead me to a table for 5? Anyhow, the service was very good, could've been a little more attentive to our beverage needs. The menu was somewhat short, but the food was fresh and delicious. Impressive wine list and I easily found some fair values. The sommelier was very helpful and VERY busy. By the way, downstairs at the bar, a very surly bartender almost chopped my hand off for trying to place my credit card on the bar. All in all, a very pleasant experience, not worth a months wait. Also, as others have noted, some very interesting music. they were playing Lynyrd Skynyrd's "One more from the Road."

    Nirvana Unplugged (yes, the band)

The high expectations were met with some inventive and beautiful cuisine. We were seated within minutes of our reservation and the staff was very considerate and attentive. The gamberoni special was delicious and the trio of goat cheeses were as expected. However, I must say that the music choice was unexpected at best. I'm a big Nirvana fan, but they were played the entire Unplugged album during our main course at an uncomfortably high volume. The in-laws were puzzled and I felt embarrassed for the restaurant. I'm a big fan of Batali's restaurants, but Babbo was no better than Lupa. Honestly, Lupa's service and cuisine reigned supreme - at a 50% discount.

    Met my expectations

Obviously the buildup is enourmous, but Babbo met my high expectations. It wasn't overly pretentious, which is very important for an expensive restaurant to succeed at welcoming people. Everyone I went with enjoyed the food and the service was very good. I feel it is necessary to respond to the last commentor: This is New York City, it is supposed to be one of the freest most sophisticated and innovative cities in the world - you should no longer expect a restaurant to have a dress code any more. Most people are thankful they can go to any restaurant without having to feel bad because they dress differently. Relax.
