Absolutely Beautiful
My sisters Ethel Mae, Coretta, Carmen, Kim and Kathy and I had the opportunity to dine at B Smith's (NYC) on Saturday, February 25, 2012 after attending Sistas, The Musical. The meals, the atmospher and the unexpected fellowship with Mrs. Smith and husband, Dan was 'Absolutely Beautiful.' I know I speak for sisters as well, "We had a grand time." "Thank You, Both." My choice of meal was the Southern Fried Chicken with Mashed Sweet Potatoes and Collard Greens. Being a true southern girl myself, I pride myself on being quite a cook, therefore it is pretty hard to please me with a restaurant style southern meal. Well, ALL THUMBS up to Mrs. B Smith. The meal was absolutely yummy to my tummy. A taste of my sister Mae's meal of Crab Cakes proved to be the 'best' crab cakes she and I both have ever had. Each sister raved about who's meal was best...this is clear evidence frequent trips to NYC must be planned so that we can each enjoy the entire menu. I commend Mrs. Smith, and husband Dan, for their dedication to the community in which they serve. This was our (The Milton Sisters) first time at the NYC restaurant, however, we were embraced with warm arms and we greatly appreciate the warmth and hospitality you so graciously shared. I look forward to dining with you again...soon. On my next visit, I hope to sample the Salmon with Grits with a my own side order of Crab Cakes. Again, we "Thank you" for the Absolutely Beautiful evening at B Smith's.

Best ever! fried green tomatoes
My first NYC visit, included dinner at B.Smith. This was a memorable experience for me and my daughters. The atmosphere, food, server, waiter, wine selection and jazz band really enhance the restaurant and gave me a sense of quality and elegance that B Smith is trying to offer her customers. While in NYC, B Smith should be included as a dining spot. For me, I'm ready to revisit. Too bad Miami doesn't have a restaurant like B Smith.

Nice new experience
Sampled B. Smith's for a dinner celebrating my wife's B'day on 10/12/2011 after a matinee performance of "Anything Goes". Our expectations were high as this was our first visit to B"s, and for the most part those expectations were met. We began with an order of Fried Green Tomatoes as an appetizer. Pleasantly surprised with freshness, taste, and presentation. My wife ordered the Southern Fried Chicken and I chose the Corn Meal Encrusted Fried Catfish Fillet. Both were delicious, however I would have preferred a more adherent corn meal coating on my catfish. Our sides of Mashed Sweet Potatoes, Southern Style Greens,Traditional Mashed Potatoes, and Kale were perfect, ample and delicious. We finished with an assortment of Raspberry, Mango, and Coconut Sorbets for my wife, and a Sweet Potato Praline Pie for myself, which was more a large tart than a slice of pie, which was what I was expecting. What an incredibly delicious surprise here! Steaming hot when I cut into it and so delicious. Felt like home ! We also appreciated the ambience and decor with soft muted earth tones and comfortable assorted geometricaly designed pillows against the long side wall where we were seated. Professional smart service from our waiter and several managers an added plus. With coffee, tea and two cocktails our dinner was $116.00 before the tip. One minor down side, $4.95 for a 12 oz. soda with lots of ice and no refills seemed a bit steep, but otherwise a very enjoyable dinner. I recommend everyone give B's at least one visit and when we're in the mood for Southern Comfort food we certainly will return to B's

Mediocre
Food use to be really good a few years ago. I don't know what happened but food is just mediocre now. Dishes are overpriced and not worth the money.

A new cook?
I have been to B Smith's 3 times and it was usually a delight, but the last time, I figured she had hired a new chef. The food was overcooked. I took someone who had never been there before and I was embarrassed at my previous raves. Will not go there again.

disappointing experience
we got there at 6:15pm for a 6:30pm reservation for a party of 4. seated right away, nice. unfortunately, waiter did not come by to take drinks orders 'til about 15 mins. came back to take our orders @7:05pm. we asked several times for bread because we were hungry, finally gave it to us at 7:15pm along with our appetizers. but our entree's came so late. we asked several times, we were given, "oh sorry, we have a party upstairs there must have been a mix up". in the meantime, the table sitting next to us that just came, their orders came up 20 mins after they came. and we had ordered the same thing, the rib eye. and finally, as we were eating our dessert, a new couple that was seated across us that just came who ordered some salad, our waiter came by to them, with a fresh pepper mill asking if they wanted some. in the meantime, our whole entire meal, never came by once to ask if we were fine. we ordered rib eyes, and we had to ask twice for a steak knife. very bad service. wait time was unacceptable. food was average. to top it off with a charge of a $5.00 soda was just too much. don't come here. there are better restaurants around the area.

okay for the money
Went on Sunday 6/27/2010 after seeing the last show of Hair (which was fabulous!) I previously looked up vegetarian friendly restaurants in the theatre district & came across B Smiths. Finally something for me to order besides a salad or pasta! I chose the rib dish (made of Soy products) that came with greens and mashed sweet potatoes. The ribs were great although I have a feeling they may have been a variation of the Boca or Morningstar vegetarian brand, if not the actual brand itself (as opposed to being restaurant made). I also found myself grabbing for salt to add to the sweet mashed potatoes, which I RARELY do. Generally, I can say I was satisfied as I finally ate something different than what I'm normally forced to choose as people have different ideas of what vegetarian meals consist of! I also had the vegetarian steamed dumplings, which were very good. The entree was $24 and dumplings were $9. My mother ordered the fried chicken dish, which she absolutely loved.....$25. My boyfriend, on the other hand, ordered the Chilean sea bass which came with a side of Japanese eggplant. The piece of sea bass was fairly generous however, we really should've questioned what the eggplant would taste like. I could tell on my boyfriend's taste that he was disappointed so I tasted a piece. It was tough to cut and bland in taste. I tasted a piece, added some salt & pepper but that didn't do the trick. I grabbed some of the dipping sauce from the dumplings but that only masked the taste of bland-ness from the eggplant! Since the restaurant allows for substitutions, we should've thought the eggplant out further and swapped it out for something else. The dish was $36 and only disappointing for the fact that the side portion of the eggplant remained untouched because of the taste. When we got home my boyfriend ended up eating something light because the fish alone simply didn't fill him. Another mistake that was made was ordering a bottle of water. It barely filled up our 3 glasses and cost $12! They also do not have free refills and charge for every glass of soda or iced tea that you order. We did show our ticket stub from the play, which saved us 20%. The bill for the 3 of us, no alcoholic drinks, was $147. I wonder if we would've been better off with the Prix Fixe Menu although the choices are limited. Although disappointed for my boyfriend I was satisfied with my choice. Worth trying out but I most likely will not return.
