Great Restaurant for quality & peace
The best vegetarian food is still at this quiet little restaurant on the Upper W. Side. We use to live down the block and we'd eat here every 2 or 3 wks. Always great fresh , tasty, healthy food...consistent. Service was fine and small cozy restaurant that allows you to eat and enjoy in peace and quiet. Great price for all that you get. We moved downtown last yr and we miss this great restaurant but we make the trip all the way up to W.94St from the Village at least once a month because we think it is worth it,. We'd go back more often if time allowed.

True Neighborhood Experience
Here is a great restaurant that serves a wonderful value, several different tiny bowls that will always surprise you with great flavors. the food is simple and tasty, it is a fixed menu, which is great because you do not have to worry about reading a menu, just enjoy the cosy room and neigborhood people...

Fantastic Healthy Food
If you want to eat healthy and balanced w/o having to get ripped off by flash and hype, this is the place. For the price, you cannot top the food here. EXCELLENT but limited options. The waitresses seem bit bored and unwelcoming but will put up with them for the great food. We travel all the way from lower 5th Ave regularly to eat here and it is worth it for us.

Hurray! No menu to read!
I think that the food here is excellent, the service is friendly, the atmosphere is soothing, and the price is right. Also, no menu to read; there is a pre-determined menu every day. Very healthy, strictly vegetarian.

Don't Think Indian - Think Ayurveda
Don't go in expecting spicy, ghee laden, rich North Indian cuisine--if that's what you want, this isn't the right place (I recommend Jackson Heights or Murry Hill). Think Ayurvedic food, which is a South Indian form of medicine that involves a certain thinking about balance (hence, Ayurvedic massages). What you get for your $11.99 dinner (and I've only had delivery) is a wonderful value of healthy, low-fat vegetarian fare that includes soup, curd, dal, brown or basmati rice, 2 vegetable curries, bread, and dessert. The food is low on the fat but prepared to give you a good balance of nutrition, carbs, and fat/protein. It's a superb deal. This is as good as food I've had in Kerala, India at an Ayurvedic hospital. I also recommend the salty curd lassis, which are hard to find in the US--quite different from their sweet cousins. Also note that the curd is real curd, which is different from the yogurt most American lassis are made with. Delicious.

True to its name
Not too spicy, excellent combinations, nice not to have to choose sometimes. The first go round is so filling, it's unlikely you'll need seconds. Breads are great! Love the teas (though it costs extra) and the desserts are small but just right. I don't know why the one reviewer threw up the next morning. What else did they have the night before? I've eaten there many times over the years and never had a bad experience. Usually there are people who are friendly there and if you are alone and they're alone, they might like to chat/share a table. It's that kind of mellow place. The waiters are knowledgeable and just friendly enough but not too friendly. There's also a tradition at this place where you can pick a fortune from a treasure chest just before you leave. What with a little fountain, gentle lighting and a full tummy, this is like a little resort experience. And not expensive!

Don't fall for it!
After reading such great reviews of this restaurant, we decided to take some out of town guests here. we were first shocked at how small it was, then we were surprised to see the only option we had was if we want brown or white rice. the menu was already fixed and its served in a canteen. the food was very spicy and it included an astringent milky dish that noone touched. the staff was not warm or accomodating and both my roomate and myself vomitted up the food the next morning. so warning to all, if you are looking for a new way to view indian food, dont go here, say your money and go to a real indian restaurant where you can get samosas if you want!
