Slow
Being on hold for ten minutes before ordering should have been my first sign that maybe this wasn't going to be speedy delivery. I live six blocks away and it took an hour to get the food delivered, I should have just walked over and picked up. The food was icy cold which means in retrospect means I shouldn't have ordered at all.

last-minute savior
After another restaurant was unable to honor my large reservation, we went to Awash -- 18 people -- and they not only were able to seat us right away, but we got a room to ourselves and one big table. The service was fast, the food was delicious and filling, and the honey wine excellent. They (and my fast-thinking friend) saved my birthday. I had previously thought their portions too small, but they were generous this visit. And the sambusas are wonderful and flaky. The honey wine was a particular treat.

Just as good as on the UWS
I recently at this location for the first time and it was just as great as their location uptown on Amsterdam. I always recommend the lamb.

Disappointing.
Disappointing. Food was bland, poorly seasoned, for Ethiopian food it was practically tasteless. Too bad, service and location were good, but I wouldn't go back for the food. Maybe they can get a better cook or something.

Tiny, tiny portions
An Ethiopian meal is supposed to be filling. Their portions are very small. The food is okay, though.

Nice ambiance, food not so great
Service was not that great, they are short staff. Also, the food was not tasty at all. Price is high based on the qty. they give ... not a great experience

Awash in Goodness
as a long time Ethiopan food lover,I was surprized and delighted Awash infiltrated Indian Row down on 6th street - One can only have so much chicken tikka! - Awah is a low lit, low cieling room, divided by a wall. Tables for 2 and four can be found in both sections. There is also a tiny 4 person bar on one side. I tried the Meat Combo - which was 5 different meat dishes (small portions) with 3 vegtable sides. I highly reccomend the Gorem (collad greens) and the yegbeg (lamb in butter sauce) The joint was empty when I had the good fortune to happen upon this place onThursday night - Three other couples and a table of artists shared our space. Very low key, low music (traditional African music I am assuming) Our waitress was helpful, as she described Ehtopian beers, and our food was served quickly. After we decimated our injera, a new plate was served w/o having to be asked (or charged) Although the portions were small, the food was filling. Lamb was tender, chicken ws not stringy, and the beef was fresh. My spiced tea was delightful, and all 3 of the house beers were enjoyed. For a mid week dinner, this was a nice place to duck into. Two blocks away on 8th street you cannot get a table, but here we were able to enjoy our food and conversation at a leisurely pace. Our bill came in at under $45. (w/o tip) Highly recommended. Good for dates, and friends. Not suitable for kids.
