I love Ethiopian food and I've been to several of NYC's Ethiopian restaurant. As amazing as the prices were, the dollar saving value combos were not good enough for me to go back. The small reason would be there was no traditional style dining, which is a portion of the experience. But the large and real reason is that the food wasn't that great. Yes it was spicy, no doubt about that (not that spice is a problem), but there was very little flavor to spice ratio. The best part about Ethiopian food is the way the flavors and the spice melts together to create a fabulous dish, but it just didn't do that for me here.

Highly recommend the combo platters, you get to try all sorts of flavors. It comes out on a giant platter with an injera bread topped with different stews and sauces. The injera bread is a bit sour and spongy and may take a few bites to get used to, also for some it may be a new experience eating with no utensils. But well worth it, everything is tasty and good value too!

Awash was recommended by a woman we sat next to at the Bistro Ten 18. She steered us right. Went for lunch and had some of everything on the lunch menu by ordering a veggie combo and the combo for one. Beautifully presented and phenomenlly good.

A friend and I, having never tasted Ethiopian cuisine, decided to dine at this restaurant last night. I must say, we were very pleasantly surprised. The food was simple, yet delicious, and our waitress was quite nice. The restaurant is small, but has a cozy atmosphere. The table we sat at jiggled a bit, though, so I was slightly concerned about the water glasses toppling over. The decorations are authentic-looking, which is quite appealing. I'd definitely recommend this place! The dishes are definitely worth their price, and are very filling.

I came here last night on a double date. The staff couldn't have been friendlier, and the food was delicious. We'll all be back!

I called to find out if Awash delivered, and I was told twice that they did. Then when I called to place my order for myself and a group of friends, I was rudely told that no one was there. I said that someone had just told me that there would be delivery, and I was given a nasty attitude by a man. He then proceeded to hang up on me, despite the fact that I had not had a chance to say more.

This place is a lot less expensive than all the other Ethiopian places I've been to. $23 combo with 3 meat dishes and 4 veggie dishes? For TWO people? Yup! And it wasn't just a dinner special, AND you can pick which types you want. So value wise, this place is definitely great. Same with atmosphere -> nice family joint. Two complaints from me, and why I probably won't go back despite it being great value. (1) Service was slightly slow. Took a while to get our order, but other than that the waitress was really friendly and nice. (2) The food wasn't the best. It was good no doubt, but I'm used to more flavor than just "spicy." Still, try it out! Maybe bring some people who've never had Ethiopian food and are scared to try it.
