    Good times

I came here last night on a double date. The staff couldn't have been friendlier, and the food was delicious. We'll all be back!

    Ridiculous

I called to find out if Awash delivered, and I was told twice that they did. Then when I called to place my order for myself and a group of friends, I was rudely told that no one was there. I said that someone had just told me that there would be delivery, and I was given a nasty attitude by a man. He then proceeded to hang up on me, despite the fact that I had not had a chance to say more.

    good, but....

This place is a lot less expensive than all the other Ethiopian places I've been to. $23 combo with 3 meat dishes and 4 veggie dishes? For TWO people? Yup! And it wasn't just a dinner special, AND you can pick which types you want. So value wise, this place is definitely great. Same with atmosphere -> nice family joint. Two complaints from me, and why I probably won't go back despite it being great value. (1) Service was slightly slow. Took a while to get our order, but other than that the waitress was really friendly and nice. (2) The food wasn't the best. It was good no doubt, but I'm used to more flavor than just "spicy." Still, try it out! Maybe bring some people who've never had Ethiopian food and are scared to try it.

    No eating sand here.

When I first said that I had Ethiopian food here and love it to a friend they said, "Ethiopian food? What do you eat sand?" It was safe to say I was a bit incredulous, first off the 1980s food crisis is nothing to laugh at and second of all the food is far from sand. Nevertheless, they were contrite when I brought them here. I always get the Awash Chicken and ask for them to mix up the vegetables for me (this way one gets a larger assortment). This is not your typical restaurant experience, where they try to turn your table over in the shortest amount of time possible. The servers are wonderful and let you eat and enjoy the food, this is a non-pressured environment, where you can come to relax and enjoy without feeling a need to hurry up and get out, which is very nice. And the point. You might wait for a little while for the food, rarely over 20 minutes but it is all fresh and hot when it comes out, so why complain. Get yourself a nice glass of the honey wine, relax and enjoy the leisurely experience, no rush. All in all I have brought 40 different people here on separate occasions and it has been well worth it. Highly recommended.

    The Best Ethiopian Food.

I'm only writing this review because I'm shocked that anyone can bad-mouth Awash. All restaurants have their busy nights and dining experiences that may require a little more patience during certain times. The bottom line. Awash (uptown) serves the best and most authentic Ethiopian food you're going to find within hundreds of miles of NYC. I will sometimes travel up to 3 hours in NY-sports traffic just eat there. Do not even bother reading reviews that waste your intelligent taste-buds' time. If you demand the best Ethiopian food, just stop it and get to Awash. The best appetizers, meat dishes, vegetarian selections and most importantly; the best injera, hands down. Their combination dishes are unparalleled and even though Awash is not cheap, their food quality is off the charts. Ethiopian food is my favorite food on Earth and Awash (uptown) is by far my favorite Ethiopian restaurant. Take it from someone who actually knows what they're talking about and not a bunch of fly-by-night reviewers who wouldn't know quality Ethiopian food from a fajita. Some might say I'm biased and they're right. Prove me wrong people!

    Delicious!

This was my first time eating Ethiopian food and I was not disappointed! The restaurant is cozy with closely set tables lit with candles. The experience of sharing a meal and eating with your hands is so much fun. They have tasty vegetable and meat combinations available at very low prices. Awash is undoubtedly my favorite restaurant in NYC. I recommend it to anyone and everyone!
