I can't understand how anyone can be disappointed with their food! The marouli salad is out of this world, as are the roasted potatoes, the octopus and the haloumi. Have the yogurt dessert authentic, generous portion, great to share. The only complaint is that the service can be a little absent-minded they forget drink orders sometimes. But overall are very pleasant and knowledgeable. If you can, eat in the main dining room (the section in the back is too plain looking) or sit at the bar. Great place, highly recommended!!

First two times I went 6 years ago it was my favorite! This past year I realized that I haven't enjoyed this place in four years! One of their signature dishes is the stuffed squid. Once was delicous, now the cheese in the stuffing is cold, the squid is no longer fresh, (tough=frozen). Service once warm and friendly, is now cold, elitist and condescending.

We had dinner the other night at Avra for the first time and we LOVED IT!! Their appetizers are out of this world our dinner was excellent (I had a juicy steak and my relatives lamp chops and shrimp plates). Expensive.....a little yes but what isn't expensive today?. We highly recomended this place to other relatives and our friends . Friendly atmosphere and excellent service. We will be going back soon.

Last Thursday, while my friend and I were finishing our wine after a $145.00 meal, the Matride approached our table and asked us if we would mind if he bought us a drink at the bar so he could have our table. If we had been sitting there for more than 15-20 minutes after eating we could maybe understand this request. As this was not the case at all we were initially rather stunned and then insulted. In 20 years of dining in Manhattan I have never experienced that kind of thing. In addition, we both found Avra a rushed, noisy, over priced, "expense account" midtown restaurant. The food is average and the service was diner-like (which is fine at a diner, but not when you pay $50+ and up per person!

A great find. So it is fairly expensive, but the food and level of service are good and the decor and atmosphere is great. This is probably one of the best Greek restaurants in New York. Definately worth a visit if you want Greek food.

I walked past Avra with my boyfriend last night, and it looked beautiful and busy, so we figured we'd give it a try. We gave the menu a look, which consisted of pretty basic greek food, and although it was very expensive (the average fish was $30/lb) we figured the place MUST be busy for some reason... So, all in all, the food is good. Nothing over the top. No better than the other upscale greek restaurants in NYC. Clearly, you are paying for the ambiance here. My boyfriend and I had dinner (no wine and no dessert) for $130/per person. I personally don't think that it was worth it.

The lamb shop was preheated...not fresh at all the salad was no better, you can find better in Astoria. Very pricy meal; great atmosphere. Not worth it.
