I have nothing bad at all to say about the food, it was decent but not exceptional in any way. The service was indifferent. I suppose because we showed up at close to closing time (only 10 pm) we were rushed through the meal and out the door. Not the way to run a restaurant.

I found the layout and decoration of the Avon Bistro precious and could not have been happier about the service. The manager is quite charming and made my friends and I feel welcome the minute we walked in. Avon Annie the bartender makes an excellent and generous drink. The cocktail menu is creative and suits the appetizers and entrees well. I can't wait to go back, this is sure to be my new after work spot with friends or bring a date to sit in the cozy backroom for dinner!

My friends and I (table for 4) arrived at approximately 8:40 p.m. The place was not crowded. We ordered a bottle of wine, a couple of salads and 4 entrees. The wine was served immediately. About an hour later the salads appeared. They were ok - nothing special at $12 each, but we were starving by then and it was food. We waited another 40 minutes. Not a word from the waiter. As a matter of fact, we couldn't catch his eye. Finally, my friend went up to the bar area to ask where the food was and we were told that the sous chef had gone home ill and we would get served in another 10 minutes or so. This was at 10:10 p.m. We paid for the wine and salad and left. Hungry. I will never go back. And it's a block from my apt.

Service was very poor! Waiter would disappear for long periods of time, whenever he came back had to flag him down for everything - from taking our order (twice) to getting the check. I would never recommend this restaurant based on the service alone

I have been a fan of Avon since right after it opened (I work right around the corner and have been several times). The food is still tasty, although everything else seems to be suffering. The dinner menu has gotten small and the wine list isn't as interesting as it once was. The restaurant itself appears in severe disrepair. To make matters worse they just lost their manager who was amazing and seemed to set a vibrant tone for the entire restaurant. It isn't all bad. The daily specials sound and taste terrific. Their steak is still one of the best tasting and most fairly priced dishes in the city. Drinks are still good too. I hope they get their act together.

I went to Avon on 8/14/08, for a business lunch. It was very good, the food was fresh and plated very nice as well.The grilled salmon was excellent and the steamed mussels were to die for! The only negative comment I have is that it took the wait staff a long time to take our orders (it was a group of 12) but overall we all had a great experience here. I would definately recommend this establishment!

Had my rehearsal dinner here. The manager was extremely accomodating and worked with my to a great menu, with many choices at an extremely reasonable price. The backroom was perfect for our party of 30 people. The wait staff was extremely attentive to our food and drink orders and the party went off without a hitch. The brie appetizer and the fettuchini were fantastic and the skirt steak frites was a great main course. Guests who had the tuna also said it was great. Desserts were also delicious (flourless chocolate cake and ice cream sandwhich) When the bill came it was exactly what we hadthere were no hidden suprises. Highly recommend checking out this restaurant, especially for small parties.
