Autour du Monde (CLOSED)

I eat here almost every week because the food is great and it's really a lovely space -- there's a really beautiful bar, usually some great jazz playing although it's never too loud, and the owner, Olivier, usually checks in on you himself and is a friendly host. It's a very French place that way, and in addition to the great food (ALWAYS remember to ask about the specials), Olivier makes the best martini in New York.

First of all, I have real trouble believing that someone was served macaroni and cheese from a box at this restaurant, as an earlier review here indicates. Reading that, I thought, "Surely, this person is talking about another restaurant!" Everything I've ever had at Autour du Monde has been served with such care and precision, and is impeccably fresh. I've had the most delicious roast chicken, and just the other night, a wonderful leg of lamb with whipped potatoes. I also had some sort of vegetable strudel that was simply to die for. The proprietor really cares where his ingredients come from, which is why the menu changes so much, and he is up for discussing the minutiae of food preparation when he's not busy, which is something I appreciate, as a foodie. I highly recommend this place.

So much money, so little value.

One of the worst brunches I've ever had! My macaroni and cheese was right out of the box. There weren't even any cocktails. My friend's eggs were inedible. Never going back here.

I've been going to "Autour du Monde" on roughly a monthly basis for some time and I deeply hope this restaurant succeeds. The food is sublime, and clearly the place is a labor of love. Le patron has always been friendly and courteous and gone that extra bit to make sure it was an enjoyable meal. The dishes are carefully thought out and well presented. You really can't go wrong. Strongly recommended!

i've eaten here twice, once for dinner and the other for brunch and both times the food was amazing. the food is so good that you don't even notice the atmosphere or the service, which is very relaxing by the way. thumbs up to the chef and the owner. def try the beef short ribs, lamb shank, whole wheat pancakes, french toast, home fries ... u get my drift. Every Thing Is Good ... even the burger :o)

Food was great-- had the shell steak, eggplant appetizer, a bit of my partner's chestnut-mushroom risotto, and the pistachio strawberry cheesecake. Everything was delicious. Wonderful meal, good prices for the quality of food. Service a bit slow but you want to linger over the food anyway.
