    Over hyped and Overpriced

Four of us went to the new location for a pre Broadway show dinner . We oredered the pre show fixed price dinner. Way overpriced ($85) for what you received, & the food was only average. The bright spot of the evening was our waiter - he was excellent. We won't be going back anytime soon.

    Average food. Slow service.

This place is trying too hard. The food isn't good enough to drag it out for a 3 hour meal. When they were on the East side, I swore I wouldn't go back. Ditto for the new location -- but its gotten worse! Has anyone realized there is a recession on? There are a lot better restaurants at this level in New York.

    a hit on times square

My wife and I had dinner last Saturday night at the new Aureole location in Times Square. After checking on menupages.com, we decided that the bar menu had a bigger selection of appetizers and dinners that appealed to us, as opposed to the more formal dining room menu. We advised our server that we had a show to catch at 8, having arrived at 6:15. Service throughout the meal was prompt and professional, none of the "who gets what" or other issues one sometimes faces even at what are considered top restaurants. The server took the time to describe the ingredients in the dishes we ordered after they came, and our appetizers of the heirloom tomato soup and soft shell crab were great. Warm rolls were served and hit the spot. For our main course, we each had the halibut, which was perfectly cooked, crisp outside and moist and flaky inside, and full of flavor. The portion sizes were just right, leaving room for the chocolate dessert, rich and just spectacular. The wine list was large and varied, and wines by the glass were not too highly priced. The bar room is a bit minimalist on decor and can get a bit noisy, but it was perfectly comfortable. The dining room, more formal, is at the back of the restaurant and one enters it through the bar room. There is also outdoor dining outside the bar in the breezeway, but there was no one there and lacked the energy a crowd brings. For now, at least, Aureole is having a soft opening, meaning 15% off the tab, making dinner a relative bargain for a top notch meal. BYOB is also evidently OK, with a corkage fee, but there are over 10,000 bottles in the upstairs wine "cellar", so there is something for everyone and every price. While we were not expecting it, we both commented that we had experienced one of the best meals we had in a long time. Years ago, we had eaten at the Upper East Side location of Aureole when it was "hot" and were not overly impressed. However, in this new location, we would definitely make a date to go again and would put it up against any of the best New York restaurants.

    The best in NYC

I dined at Aureole Ny the last night they were open May 31st 2009. They are opening a new location on one bryant park that I can not wait to go to. My meal was delicious. I would have to say this is the best venue you can go to in nyc. I will be going to Las Vegas to dine at there location at Mandaly Bay and go to the famous wine tower. I can't wait! Then the following night I 'll check out Charlie Palmer Steak at four seasons where I will be staying at.

    New Aureole is Wonderful!

Chef Chris Lee has joined Aureole (formerly from Gilt), and has completely revamped the menu. The menu is exceptionally creative and delicious. I've always been a big fan of Aureole, and with the addition of Chef Lee, I'm thrilled to report that I will remain a big fan for many years. Service is flawless!

Not worth it in any economy

Very disappointed with last night's meal there and definitely not worth the price. I started with a rabbit-stuffed pasta - all measely 5-pieces worth were lacking in favor. My entree, a John Dory fish dish, was also very plain and well, boring. I feel I can prepare fish better at home. And the pear tatin dessert was cold and not worth the calories. Our dinner there was gifted to us for xmas, and I simply cannot imagine going there on my own dime, in any economy! Overrated and simply not worth it. The restaurant's only saving grace was the service, which was wonderful and when the waiter sensed I wasnt enjoying my food he brought an extra dessert on the house. Sadly, that dessert, also served to disappoint. With so many fine dining options in NYC, do yourself a favor and go someplace else.

    Great dinner

My friend and I had the best experience there (even though we were the youngestI'm 25, she's 30by decades). The service was impeccable. I loved my three-cheese ravioli appetizer. My friend's beef carpaccio appetizer was good, but next time we want to try the smoked salmon one. Her scallop entree was divine, as was my beef. Even the breadsticks were greatand elegantly displayed. Our first bread from the basket a server walks around with was delicious the second was cold and hard, but they more than made up for it by offering us a free whole dessert dish, truffles with dessert, and a wrapped breakfast bar to take home with us (which was so deliciouseven the next morning!). They went out of their way to win us overand it worked! Highly recommended. Our bill was about $260, so this is definitely a special occasion type place, but worth it for a sometimes treat!
