I have to agree with some of the recent reviews. This has probably been my favorite Thai restaurant in New York for about four years, but went recently for the first time this year, and it just wasn't the same. Papaya salad was dry and lacking in flavor, the entrees were good but not as good as previously, and the sticky rice that came with dessert just fell apart-not like it used to be, dense, sticky, just the right sweetness. The new iced chrysanthemum tea drink was a welcome addition, but overall I left feeling a little saddened.

We discovered Aura in a New York publication where a food critic mentioned it as where he loves to go for a local meal. The duck here is to die for! Even though it's very reasonably priced, you get huge, meaty chunks of duck whenever you order a duck dish. My favorites are the duck broth (a noodle soup) and the Pad Kra Praw with duck is amazing because it also involves VERY fresh veggies. The calamari salad is really good, too. Aura clearly places a high premium on freshness and the natural flavor that can only come from fresh ingredients. That seems to be rare in this city, especially at Aura's prices. Service is always quick and friendly. The only downside to Aura might be that silly chirping picture on the wall, but even that is a little bit endearing. Aura is well worth the commute no matter where in the city you live!

I usually hate waiting over ten minutes for my lunch, but Aura's definitely worth the wait. I owe my newfound patience to the healthy dishes and friendly service offered at the eatery. Everything catered to my specific needs. Mango salad without cashews but with extra avocado. Pad Thai no bean sprouts. Cashew nut tofu extra pineapple. Whatever I want, I get. I love that. The Thai food here is delicious. Definitely a gem on 9th.

My officemates I and used to order from here 2-3 times a week. It was that good. Then something changed I don't know what. We thought maybe the original cook(s) were on vacation and kept going back periodically to see if the food was back to the way it used to taste, but it has not. I'm sad to say I will not be going back to what was one of my favorite places to eat.
