wonderful all around
The food here is AMAZING and such a great value. If you're looking for a place to bring visitors without breaking the bank - this is it. The staff is always extremely friendly and I love that it is BYOB (they offer wine and beer at the bar as well). With outdoor seating on quiet 6th ave and a great variety of Mediterranean food on the menu, this place has it all. There fish is amazing and my friend said the Talapia special was the best meal he ever ate. LOVE!

It's not that good
As a native of Astoria, I wanted to like Athena. I have been there twice and both times, I have been disappointed by the food. It's mediocre. The staff is lovely and attentive and the desserts are divine--especially the baklava--but the food is bland.

Excellent!
Great food, and an excellent value. Generous portions, not too expensive.... and the delivery has been very quick! This restaurant is a great addition to the neighborhood, and we certainly have needed a variation from the ubiquitous Sushi bars. I recommend Athena. Haven't found anything I don't like about this place.

I could've made it myself... but better.
I ordered delivery based on some of the great reviews I read. Thanks for nothing, guys! I ordered the grilled octopus which came with a kind of foamy "I've been frozen a long time" texture. The accompanying beans were good, though. I also ordered the Horiatiki salad, which was good, but not great and THE most sad and uninspired Moussaka I've ever had in my life. It tasted like someone's first sad try. My mom can make it better... and that's saying a lot. I just didn't connect emotionally with the food the way I have at other Greek restaurants. Lots of missing flavors, lots of missing inspiration, lots of missing... the mark. Oh well. There goes $40 for food I could've cooked better myself for an eighth of the price.

Incredible!
I was in here the other day and will definitely be back! I tried a mussels special as an appetizer. The combination of flavors in there was something I would never think of myself but worked so well together! As my main meal, I ordered the lamb strudel that was highly recommended. The owner could not be more right about making this one of his specialties. Again, the pairing of a mint yogurt sauce over the lamb was new to me and again, I was pleasantly surprised! This is a very unique spot and I definitely encourage anyone who loves good food to visit!

Never again
Although I appreciated the staff coming out to find out why we were not happy with the food, I must say, I have not had such bad food in a long time. Specifics: soup was OVER salted, mussles had good sous and plenty of shells but were missing the actual musles, chiken which was on a "specials" menu was way too dry and felt very over crusted. The good part: bread was great and quite liked the spinach pie. At some point I thought that perhaps the waiter is too busy hence the lack of attention to the table outside, but then saw him hanging about by the bar, so think the service sucked also. Oh and I forgot about the "mashed potatoes" that were either 90% flour and 10% potatoes or just 100% out of powder, never tasted anything so horrible in my life. They claimed it's due to the lemon juice and basilic.

Great Greek
I love Greek food and it's great to have one in the Slope - the food is excellent think the prices are a little high for some of the dishes but overall it's a great restaurant and the owner and rest of the staff are very friendly!!!
