Cold tuna melt didn't impress
I really wanted to like this place as it's a favorite among my colleagues. However, I waited fifteen minutes at the counter for a tuna melt takeout, and then five minutes later when I opened it at my desk, the tuna was cold, and the cheese unmelted. The tuna also had an unappetizing taste. Ended up throwing it out and having to order another lunch - from somewhere else. Haven't yet been tempted to try it again, but my co-workers have apparently had better luck with their orders.

Incredible food at an excellent price!
The food was excellent. Ingredients were fresh and delicious. Our waitress was very friendly. We were seated right away. The only problem we had was it took a little long to get a refill on our drinks when the restaurant was only 1/2 full. Other than that small thing it was a perfect dining experience ;)

Cheap eats for NYC
We stayed at the Hilton and ate at Astro's whenever we could. It was close to the hotel, the food was good, and the prices were much more reasonable than many other places. Astro reminds me of a small town cafe where the wait staff is friendly, the service is prompt, and the servings generous. Of the food we ate the Astro burger (undercooked but recooked perfectly with no argument), fries, gyro sandwich, buckwheat pancakes, breakfast sausage (HUGE links), rye toast (thick slices with a mild flavor), over easy eggs (cooked to perfection), and home fries were excellent. The vegetarian eggplant with rice and the vegetable frittata were just okay. I would go back again and recommend it as a place to try.

Go for breakfast
Breakfast is terrific and reasonably priced. Lunch and dinner are expensive for what they are (solid diner food), but its a nice place. I go all the time for breakfast. Lunch grilled ham and cheese is 8 dollars however! Yikes.

best burger in NYC
I worked across the street for eight years.Once a week, thirty of us would get the bacon cheeseburger. It was great every time...The fries are pretty good too........

Staff is rude.
The Astro Diner staff is rude. Maybe they are trying too hard to be the NYC stereotype but it's pretty ridiculous. I arrived first for a breakfast meeting at 8:30 am. They would not seat me until everyone (3 people) was there. I understand BUT the place was more than half empty. The waiter's english was not great. No problem. I understand. BUT he asked the guest to repeat her order 3 times. 3 times. Good coffee. Poor service.
