    Staff is rude.

The Astro Diner staff is rude. Maybe they are trying too hard to be the NYC stereotype but it's pretty ridiculous. I arrived first for a breakfast meeting at 8:30 am. They would not seat me until everyone (3 people) was there. I understand BUT the place was more than half empty. The waiter's english was not great. No problem. I understand. BUT he asked the guest to repeat her order 3 times. 3 times. Good coffee. Poor service.

    Great Breakfast experience

I go to NYC twice a year and stay for ten days and I usually go to Astro every morning. I love the diner ambience and the service is fast and friendly and the food is delicious.I don't think it is expensive at all for after all you are in Midtown Manhattan. The coffee is good..The food is always served very hot and the eggs benes are great. Have never had to wait long at all as they have fast service, but pleasant.

    Hidden Gem!

We stumbled upon this little diner the first morning of our stay and you get a great value meal, great menu choice, cooked fresh and fast with good service. Our average breakfast for 4 adults was around $40. First thing they serve you is iced water, free of charge whilst you puruse the extensive menu. On our last day, we stopped in to Astro for dinner and again, they did not let us down. Chicken gyro was amazing, good portion size, not too much food, just enough to not make you feel wasteful for leaving anything! Highly recommend this place, ate there 4 times (3 breakfasts and 1 dinner) the service and food were superb!!

    Very mediocre and pricey

Everything was pricey. However, we're used to the rate for Greek diners in upstate New York. My wife's burger was excellent, however everyone elses meal was somewhat disappointing. Sante Fe steak wrap - would have been a lot better with real shaved steak as opposed to the steakum like meat roll they sliced it from. Chicken tenders were tough as hell - at least the chicken didn't have a gamey taste. Turkey club was very uneventful but adequate. Coleslaw that accompanied the lunches was bland. Fries were tepid. Booths were very tight. This place has lots of miles on it. However, the waiter was very patient and friendly. The location perfect....smack in the middle of the greatest city on the planet !

    Professional Robbery

I ordered eggs sausage & bacon at lunch. They charged me $18.00. It was a good breakfast. But I honestly wanted to leave it there. They are robbers.

Not bad for a late dinner

I recently went on a trip with my school to NYC, and when we arrived that night we were ready to grab a bite to eat. The guard at the hotel recommended Astro and said it was good and not very expensive. It was nice, but quite pricey. I would go back, but not often as there are other places to eat that have better food and prices (even though it is quite hard to find cheap food in NYC). The service was decent and it seemed relatively clean. I got the chicken tenders (around $9) , which were good. The barbecue sauce was amazing, but can be bought much cheaper at any local grocery store. Another person I know ordered the chicken pot pie ($15), she said they gave her half the chicken. That looked delicious, but I was trying to budget my money and wasn't willing to put so much into one dinner when I couldn't take it back to the hotel because we weren't allowed to open the refrigerators. Overall, it's good, but quite expensive for a small dinner in a little diner.

    Good Local Grub

This diner is one of the last places in the neighborhood from the old days - before chain food stores proliferated the midtown business district. It's clean, well run, family owned and you can get a decent meal - not as cheap as a diner should be, but the rents in this area are outrageous. It's a great place if you need to get away from your desk and you don't drink at lunchtime (or I have a better recommendation), and an even better place if you are working late and want a hot meal served by a friendly waiter. It's great for tourist too - the staff will tell you all you need to know to make your NYC visit enjoyable.
