    Ok but not great

It's a bit overpriced and very small portions. We got the Mahi Mahi and that was a mistake...it was overcooked and very small. It was under the "Large Plate" section of the menu but it should have been an appetizer. The lounge is more of a bar like area. The interior is pretty neat and I like the atmosphere.

    Pleasantly Surprised

My boyfriend and I went here a couple weeks ago as I've been dying to go. When you first walk in, you're in the bar area which I wasn't too impressed by: small bar, skimpy decor, but I was there for dinner, so we went to the back dining area. The dining area was cozy and warm (probably because we sat at the fire table). But let's get on to the good stuff... the food! For an appetizer we had the Crispy Polenta Fries w/ Gorgonzola Sauce - delicious but for the price I'm not sure it's worth it (I think it was $8 for 6 little fries). My boyfriend had the Goat Cheese and Arugala salad which was also delicious - good amount of cheese, dressing wasn't overpowering. I had the duck and let me tell you... it may be the best dish I've had in New York as of yet. It was perfect! The skin was crispy, the flavoring was perfect (not too salty), the sauce was a great compliment to the duck. I was really skeptical of getting the duck but trust me... I was so glad I went with it. My boyfriend and I loved Aspen. We concluded that it is so good because everything we ordered seemed like it was made with lots of care and effort - You don't see that too often!

    Attractive venue, disappointment overall

Attractive venue with little else to offer. Stopped by for drinks and appetizers after work and sat at the bar. The shrimp quesadilla lacks flavor. They put a dollop of sour cream on top and some french-friend potatoe sticks. No salsa. My friend had the Bison sliders. Two decent size baby burgers topped off with some bacon which wasn't cooked long enough (not crisp at all) Basic drinks are expensive. The music was scizophrenic the volume was turned up and down over and over. Drink menu looks good. Lots of men drinking colored martinis. Restaurant area looks appealing, but given the lack of flavor in the food, I'd not go back.

    Not worth it

Thought this was one of those NYC hot spots, wrong, wrong. Aspen is loud and the decor goes from a barn to a 2 star Colorado hotel lobby. Menu is boring and the food is bland. Why pay top dollar for average mac and cheese (go Kraft if you got the blue box blues). My steak was far from tender and my guests was still alive, what an embarrassment. New York has too many good restaurants and I doubt this one will be around much longer. First and last time visit.

    Not worth the steep prices

Although I did eat here during Restaurant Week, this place was barely worth the discount-priced meal. Sure, the ambiance was great. But the clean white walls adorned with wintery birch trees, moose antlers, and a retro wood-paneled bar set the mood for a trendy, upscale take on wild west food that didn't quite hit the mark. Tiny portions made bloody bison meat look cute on slider buns, and the snow-capped cupcakes were good, but not much set them apart from your average vanilla cupcake with cream cheese frosting besides their tiny size. We waited 35 minutes for the check, and because the music was so loud, we had a hard time making conversation over the noise (we eventually surrendered to the blaring techno and settled on eating in silence). (Needless to say, it was a long 35-minute wait for the check.) All-in-all, this place is cool, the food is decent, but I would definitley not pay full price for it.

    Toooo Loooud!

The food was pretty goodthe salmon was very tasty with black lentils, and the steak really delish but the DJ in this place needs to TURN DOWN THE MUSIC. It was ridiculously loud, and even a great song sounds awful when it's making your ears bleed. I couldn't hear anything the hostess, the waiter, or my date was saying.

    Nice atomsphere, poor service

I went to Aspen on Tuesday night with four girlfriends. The restaurant was beautiful with the open fireplace, and a nice place to hang out. The food was ok, nothing exceptional. We shared a number of small plates and had drinks. The Acai Margarita was wonderful. We ordered the mac and cheese- (pretty good), the trout tacos (terrible- just tasted fried), the shrimp quesadilla (pretty good), polenta fries (good dipping sauce but very skimpy portion), asparagus (nicely flavored) and they did a side of truffle mashed potatoes (not as great as hoped). I had heard they had a mashed potato platter- but apparently they stopped that several years ago. We also ordered the snow cap cupcakes- which were actually corn muffins w/some kind of icing and were not good. The service was unbelievably poor. There was only one waiter for the whole room. Our waiter wouldn't take our order until the 3rd time he stopped by our table saying he'd be right back and then proceed to do another lap of the restaurant. We couldn't get our check and had to chase him down. It's a nice space, but nothing special.
