    Never lets me down

    I ate at Artisanal last night for dinner and had a wonderful meal. It was so good I had to write this review to inform people that are complaining about the restaurant that they need to try it again. Maybe the wrong time to go is on Valentines Day when things anywhere get out of hand. This restaurant has a solid record of very good consistent food and service. My husband and I have been eating there since it opened. Brunch,lunch dinner they manage to do it correctly. Last night I had the seasonal Lotte (monkfish) and it was amazing. I highly recommend it

    Food is excellent

    I went here for valentine's day this year and absolutely loved the food. We had a Valentine's Day pri fixe menu which was $65 a person. This included an appetizer, entree, and dessert. I had the french onion soup, chicken under a brick, and my boyfriend and I shared the chocolate fondue. I have not one complaint about the food - and the chicken was one of the best chicken dishes I have had. It was cramped - we were 6 inches from the table next to us, so it wasn't the best ambiance for a romantic dinner. The server was pretty slow, however she has a lot of tables. Our fondue was problematic - the breeze of everyone walking by kept blowing out the flame, so I cannot say it was to die for. However, I would go back just based on the food alone. Be prepared though - we were there for 3 hours in total

    Worst Service in Town

    The wait staff is a stunning mixture of incompetence. We sat at our table for 20 minutes for our drink order. When our cheese plate finally came out, we had no bread. We asked another waiter about our order because our waiter was nowhere to be found, another rude waiter simply replied - I'm not your waiter. When our waiter finally resurfaced, we overheard both waiters mocking us right in front of us. At this point, we had to confront the manager who comped part of our meal. If you want to be treated poorly, ignored and suffer through your meal, then my all means - go here. However, if you want a semblance of service, you're better off going with a fast food joint.

    Great Food - Horrific service!

    I have tried Artisanal for lunch a few times as it is only a block from my office. The food is excellent, fresh, and delicious, but the entire wait staff should be retained or fired. We decided to give it one more try for a late lunch today and I do not think we will be returning. The food took a long time to arrive and that was after a long wait for out drinks and bread. When our courses did come out they were in the wrong order and one of the appetizers was completly overlooked. It never made it to the table or the bill. It was as if we never ordered it, but I saw the waiter write it down. Once the entrees arrived not one person came to the table to check on us for over 30 minutes and all servers and busboys purposely avoided making eye contact. As we waited even longer for the dishes to be cleared we watched more than half of the serves sitting across the restaurant folding napkins. On top of everything the restaurant was only a third full the whole time and they were completely overstaffed. How can it be that proper attention is not paid to your guests at a time like that? Order to go because no one there deserves to be tipped!

    Don't come after 9pm they'll be rude!

    I was at Artisanal for dinner TWICE this week - one night after a concert that ended (we arrived at 9:45) and another to meet friends one night around 9. When my friend and I arrived at 9:45 the first time, we were told we wouldn't be seated as the last seating was at 9:30 - so we went to the bar and the bartender was SO rude - obviously mad that we were going to order food. He snapped that we could only order any food before 10. We ate fast (as we were being eyed by everyone we felt to hurry up - even though there were at least 40 people in the place)... The second time was even more ridiculous - there were at least 15 tables open at 9:30 - when we arrived (we had planned to eat at the Breslin but it was jammed) - we were asked if we had reservations, and when we said no the one hostess ROLLED HER EYES!! When we were seated (mind you the place was at least 70% full at this point) - the waitress TOTALLY rushed us. She was over every 30 seconds (I kid you not) to ask if we were ready to order drinks, ready to order dinner - we were chatting and I think 5 minutes to look at the menu isn't too long!!!! I don't know what's up there - but when you read the website it clearly says dinner Monday - Friday until 11. You can make opentable reservations until 10:45 - we were clearly within their published limits here... and yet they treated us - both times - extremely rudely. Wouldn't rush back, which is a shame, as we live around the corner.

    Always Good and Reliable.

    I have never had any problems with the main Artisanal on 32nd St. The service and food has been consistantly good and I have used the restaurant for both business and personal dining. I have even brought small children into the restaurant and had special attention given to their needs. I had some problems with the new restaurant downtown (when it first opened) but when I complained the manager came over and made sure we were treated much better.

    Never Again!

    We arrived at the restaurant and were seated in area which was overcrowded, two sets of two rows of small round bistro tables were diagonally set along the restaurant, my elbows were touching those next to us and more tables just anywhere they could they fit them. It was already crowded and chaotic and they kept rearranging the tables as we sit, lifting them up and above everyone's heads. We were seated and it was 30 minutes or more before anyone came. 20 minutes later the waiter came and asked us again about our wine choices which he claimed he simply forgot. Then it was another 30 minutes for the wine to come. So, an hour on into our Valentines dinner we were sitting on an empty table with water only, no bread, hor douves or anything else. After more than an hour an half I had to motion the waiter and asked him if we are going to get anything we ordered, or at least some bread to go with our (near empty) water glasses. I had to really make the point to him. He was disappearing about 10-15 minutes at a time and more and nobody was getting anything. Then the wait station machines went down , which they covered with napkins and put a signs "do not touch". So we sat and waited, and waited, and waited. About two hours later we finally got wine and some bread which we had to remind everyone for. Finally, hor douves arrived cold and nothing memorable in terms of taste. Also, I ordered the pate with cornichons, one of which looked like it had been bitten off. Disgusting! Maybe it was just broken, but at a restaurant, let's at least try for a little something in terms of presentation. Our experience was now getting more than ridiculous. Dinner arrived with no appropriate cutlery and so we eventually had to start and a steak knife was delivered 10 minutes later. Again, at the end we had to ask for more water as there is nobody really attending to the tables. Wait staff was simply walking around completely out of it. The food was average and for the price we paid poor quality. Finally, the much waited dessert 'fondue for two' came which had 3 bits of an strawberry , somewhat strange that for the price of 59 per couple they could not include a whole strawberry! Everyone around us experienced the same wait time and a family and a couple simply left before their meals arrive. For a place that charges $150 and more for dinner for two this is simply unacceptable on any night.
