    Born & bread

I was born in Manhatten as were my parents . I have traveled the world. Arties is a wonderful Deli. The food is great, the service incomparable. There is no downside to this place other than it is not open 24 hours. And I'm no tourist.

    Nothing special, nothing awful

The restaurant was clean, the service was variable - our waitress was great to us - but the fella at the door was beyond annoying, the food was all right, but not worth going out of our way for. An ok place to meet people, have something decent, and talk. Not a destination meal.

    Pancakes yes, most else no

Go for the delish chocolate chip pancakes and consummate New York-style "service." At all costs, though, avoid the "cheese" omelette -- that is, unless you really love whatever second-rate processed quasi-food material is used as a stand-in when Velveeta is unavailable. In terms of delivery and take-out, be sure to check your order before accepting; they "forgot" an item and when I tried to get my rice pudding they treated me like I was trying to scam them! So much for goodwill -- oh wait, that's right, we don't do goodwill here in New York, because we don't have to -- we're New York, and if you don't like it, well, tough.

Are all these other reviewers tourists?

My husband and I have given Arties the benefit of the doubt 3 times. This is only due to the fact that it is the only "Jewish Style" deli on the Upper West Side. The Pastrami is *not* deli pastrami, rather it like the pastrami you would find in a bodega. We recently moved from the East side where we loved our delis: Pastrami Queen (Lex & 84th), and 2nd Ave Deli (2nd and 10th) Unfortunately both have been torn down to make way for high-rise condos. Given that, these reviewers, toursist, or not, may never know the true pleasure of a *real* deli sandwich.

    Great Food - Poor Delivery

I love this place but must agreee that the delivery is sub-par. Last week, I placed an order and was told the wait would be 45 minutes, which I accepted even though it was a bit long. The food finally arrived, but my chicken soup was tepid at best and my frankfurter and entree were cold. Unbelievably, it still tasted OK, but would have been much better hot, especially after waiting so long! My 2 cents....

    This place is great

Favorite deli on the upper west side. The post that says the delivery is bad is probably an isolated situation. I order from them at least once a week and i have had better success from them then most places. I have had one bad delivery in the past (pastrami instead of salami - the pastrami is better anyhow) and they offered a free sandwich for me the next time.

    Great deli!

This was a fun experience in NYC! The food was fantastic and tons of it. The Matzoh ball soup was perfect for the cold rainy day. My boyfriend and I each had a sandwich, but should have shared - lots of leftovers. The yummiest pickles ever!! (and I make my own pickles, so that's saying something...)
