Way past the Heyday
I live in a nearby apartment building. When it first opened Artie's was the best restaurant in the neighborhood. Now, many chefs and owners later, food has gotten worse, and prices have gotten higher (a bad combo). Still not terrible, but you can do better for lunch.

Not recommended
I had the most disappointing tuna melt of my life in this place. It looked like someone had thrown up on a burnt piece of toast and put some american cheese over it and microwaved french fries. I complained to the waitress who agreed that it was a mess and she apologized. She offered to bring me another one which was equally as unappetizing. At this point, I decided to leave. I realized that I was wasting time and money in there. I will never set a foot in there again.

Really???
I just ate at Arties today for the 2nd time since it opened. The food is disappointing and the staff is equally bad. The matzo ball soup was a salty mess. Between staff rolling their eyes at crying babies (isn't that their target audience?) and Costco looking desserts in the display case as one walks in, makes this place about at appealing as school in summer.

Misses the boat!
Being a born Brooklynite I have my own expectations of what pastrami and corned beef and frankfurters need to taste like. I had decided to take these home. Each item, very unfortunately "missed". They all tasted just 'ok' - but not right. On the same note there is a small deli called Tasty Deli - near Columbia Medical Center. I find the pastrami to be "perfect".

Good Beef Brisket & Chicken Fingers :)
The service was slow but we had time to spare so it wasn't an issue that day.

Careful!
As said below, the sandwiches are generously sized, and the pastrami is moist and tasty. However, one thing soured my meal experience at Arties. If you are a frequent eater at New York City diners, you will know that they always go around with a coffeepot offering to "top up" your cup. You are only charged for one cup no matter how many refills they give you. My husband and I had one cup and one refill each, and on our bill we were charged for FOUR CUPS. This is, in my opinion, sneaky and dishonest. I wager that most people accepting the offer of a refill think that it's free. It isn't. It was only $3.50 all told, but it left enough of a bad taste that we won't be returning to Artie's.

Great Classic Sandwiches
Been going here since I was young. I always loved the oversized meat filled sandwiches and they were always made to my liking. Floor is kinds slippery at times and the men's bathroom is tiny. Overall, a great casual place to grab a bite to eat either for lunch, dinner, or just a quick snack. The enormous selection of desserts even makes it more appealing.
