I go here all the time and recommend it to everyone. So, the mildew comment before could be the fact the we have been under water for the last 2 months! Anyway, the service is not consistent, I agree. The waiters can be very nice, but the bus boys sometimes are too rough and rushed and don't really care. They do their job, but it seems like they their minds are elsewhere. That said, I must say the food is really very good. Lst night I had the baked cod which could have been a $30 entree . It was part of the , basically, $20 Pre-Fixe dinner which is, by far, the best deal in the city. The appetizer salads were delicious and nicely dressed, the veal picata and saltimbocca all very good. Cappellini Primavera alittel bland, but the other pastas are very good.

what has happened to this place?! once a great neighborhhod place that i would visit every week, now a disaster! i was there tonight, as i am every week and the wine glasses were spotty and dirty..no one offered bread....service is atrocious...food is bland, even the specials! your host could care less about the customers...and there is a smell of mildew around the place...what is going on?

We have been regulars at Arte Cafe for a number of years now. It is one of our favorite places. Or was. They have changed things around and have taken the best thing off the menu without warning: Fusilli alla Norcia is no more. To add insult to injury, we ordered tonight and they hadn't updated their menus online. Instead of our favorite pasta this side of Milan, we received a greasy bowl of fusilli with a couple of cherry tomatos and some sausage chunks. It was inedible. Fusilli alla Norica is dead, long live Fusilli alla Norcia.

Had my first visit there last night though I have lived in this neighborhood for ages...planned on one glass of wine which became 2 which became dinner at the bar. Divine! WONDERFUL staff- kind, efficient and never taking themselves too seriously though run like a top-notch Italian restaurant. Wines by the glass are plentiful (and quality) and the food was clean and simple...as for the value? Excellent. Note (the portions are a good size so even an appetizer can suffice as a meal). Did I mention the bar was perfect? Just small enough, cozy, and the patrons tend to be neighborhood folk who figured out the secret of this place long before I did. I will be back!

Arte's food is very good considering the money you pay. It really is better than most Italians in the UWS. Will be back

I got dragged here by a few friends once, and have come back because it was so good. I am extremely picky, but their food is consistently good, they have amazing steak--not at all dry, pasta, etc. and are very nice about substitutions. the waiters are a bit slow, but honestly, quite friendly-- i just wouldn't eat here if in a hurry. their bread is amazing as well--you have to ask for more, which gets annoying, but they're very nice about it.
