Great experience
I am new to the neighborhood and I found a gem of a restaurant. I went there on 3/19 and had a wonderful experience. Great ambiance in the room with a fireplace. I was sitting by the window seat so had a great view of the whole place. Only downside is the noisiness of the place. I enjoyed the food. The waitress was very helpful and friendly. I would definitely be coming back.

Less than stellar
I asked the waitperson this weekend if the restaurant had been sold within the last couple of years and she said no. If it is the same owner/manager, Arte Cafe has deteriorated badly. I had a Mediterranean salad - cucumbers were mushy, tomatoes were hothouse and unripe, lettuce was wilted. It took me 15 minutes before I received the champagne I'd ordered. No refill on rolls, no biscotti at the entranceway. It's way too pricey for substandard food and service. After 10 years of patronage, I'm done.

Going Downhill
I don't think there is an restaurant in this city that is more bipolar. I've had good experiences at Arte, with good food and friendly service, and I've had bad food and equally bad service. This is also the only place in NYC where the waitress has consistently forgotten parts of my order (and it's not like I'm ordering anything special - generally, the salad or the drinks are simply forgotten, only to show up on the bill later on in the night) Bottom line - Arte Cafe is simply hit or miss, and I don't think I will return

ten
I think Arte is a great nabe place, you can dine 3x a week and not break the bank. In an era when eating out has become such a trend, this place makes is a refreshingly simple, no attitude favorite. PS after a long winter, looking forward to al fresco dining.

Not recommended for brunch
I had brunch here yesterday and I have to say....not very good. The plate arrived, the presentation of the food bland and uninspired (an orange slice or a sprig of parsley wouldn't have been much to add!). The potatoes were undercooked and the side of sausage I ordered was cold. By the time our indifferent waiter brought the butter we requested for our toast, I was nearly done with the meal. Great coffee, I'll give them that, but I won't be returning anytime soon. Pity, great location, great atmosphere and decor, but without the food to back it up, what's the point?

Very, very, good
Wow, best Italian for the price. Try the strozzapreti with wild boar, excellent. A bit too busy, but I guess that is a result of great value for the $. Will be back.
