    Salty!

    This is the first time that I wasn't able to finish my dish at a fine dining restaurant in NY. The steak tartare was so salty I could only eat a few bites. The duck entree was salty as well, and so was dessert! Not worth the money, go to any other nice restaurant in the city.They are too salt happy. Service was good and so was the ambience..but food is the most important part of a restaurant and Aquavit did not deliver.

    Elegance with flavors to savor.

    The sheer elegance of the place placed high expectations on the food. I was highly impressed that food and staff held up their end of the bargain for an amazing experience.

    Would never go back

    I would say the food was good, but there is no wow factor at all! The service needs some severe improvement. They are not trained in fine dining, and the worst part of it all is that the person serving you the food and explaining what you are about to eat has almost no command of the english language. When you are done with each course someone comes by quickly and piles up the plates on each other as if you are eating in a diner. Overall, I thought the food was good, but nowhere near exceptional, the service is not good and its not worth going back for the price, you are not getting what you are paying for.

    disappointing

    What a disappointment! First, the menu is so boring. You can make practically anything on it at home. I found the quality and taste of dishes to be uninspired and the restaurant itself to be tired and overpriced. (Swedish meatballs $20?) Go to Ikea for similar food, at $5 a plate.

    Definite no

    We went for dinner with couple of our friends. First of all, we were informed that chef requests that everyone in our party selects from the same type of prefixed menu. Which is inconvenient with a party of more than two people. Second, the food is average, not good, not bad, except for Foie Gras, which is the worst I've ever had both taste and look wise. Don't get me wrong, the food arranged on the plate beautifully but Foie Gras Ganache has a very unpleasant color and leaks out when you pierce it with the fork. The waiters, however, are absolutely impeccable. Lastly, I've visited the ladies room before heading out. The tidiness of it was slightly above of the public bathroom on the public beach.

    Great place

    Great food, nice atmosphere, very good service. I have been there many times and never got disappointed.

    Professional Restaurant

    My husband and I went to aquavit yesterday and ate in the cafe. We ordered two orders of a double serving of an appetizer of "varied herring plate". We were asked by the staff if everything was good when the table was cleared. We said all of the various herrings were very tasty and fresh except one. It was fresh but not firm (alittle mushy). They appologized and when the check came, they only charged us for two orders of a single serving of a herring plate. We feel that it makes the restaurant "a cut above".
