    good coffee, pastries, and sandwiches

AQ is a nice addition to the neighborhood. They have excellent danishes and muffins-- especially the lingonberry varieties. The service is very good at both the counter and the tables. The regular coffee and the espresso drinks were both pretty good-- better than at similar places. Sandwiches vary in quality-- the meatball sandwich and the gravlax sandwich were the best ones that I tried. Earlier in the year they had a delicious potato bread at the counter but they haven't offered that lately. They need to bring back the potato bread! Also, for some reason they had a sign outside that says there was a breakfast special that included a bread basket, but the wait staff wasn't actually suppose to include a bread basket--management should either change the sign or throw in the bread basket.

    great food-small portions-bad service

being from norway, i appreciated the smorgasbord and pastries. our service was not too bad, but the resentment radiating from the woman next to us was hard to bear. she was there when we got there, and still had not received her sandwich (presumably ordered prior to our arrival) nearly 40 minutes later and after 5 or more reminders to the wait staff. she left without a meal. that's a bad visit. hopefully they can get their service up to speed, because i would hate to lose a good swedish waffle spot!

    Why go back?

The food was good--even if the Smorgasbord plate portions were as stingy as they were tasty. I love herring, but will I ever go back? No. The service was, well, not to be believed. In an almost empty restaurant, I was not allowed to leave my jacket on the seat of a chair at an empty table. There was no place to hang it, and if I draped it over the back of mine, it would have trailed on the floor. Even worse, when ordering dessert, I was told that "because it's a weekend, we are sold out of most choices, so why don't you go and look at what's left?" Really? Why is that? Because you are too lazy to recite the remaining choices? And wouldn't you think that the weekend would be the time not to run out of dessert by Saturday afternoon? As I said, why go back?

    Salty food and service

The swedish meatballs are way too salty. All of the food we had was oversalted. The service was slow too and not all that friendly. Sweets are also way overpriced.

May be good food, poor service

In NYC, there are certain services a restaurant MUST provide (in order to make money): 1) Delivery (at least in business area) 2) Full menu available to take out and 3) TAKE AN ORDER OVER A PHONE! this place doesn't have anything of the above.

    Delicious and Quick!

I love Le Pain Quotidien and thought this looked similar so I stopped in. Food was delicious, fresh, interesting, and quick. The Gravlox sandwich was delicious and so were the pickled cucumbers - a little sweeter than I would prefer but still wonderful. I also ordered a cardamon almond pastry - two of my favorite flavors - and it was out of this world. If you've never tried Swedish food, this is a great inexpensive introduction.

Fresh, Crispy and with a Smile

This cafe has a communal feel with its long wooden tables, however spacious dining area that is child friendly. I went there with a freind who had a stroller and they were very accommodating. Although the menu does not have the traditional brunch, it has a variety from soups to salads, and even warm entrees that are all tasty. The chicken soup is hearty with chunks of chicken in a rich broth, the tomatoe and cheese soup is "velvety" and delish! The side bread basket contains two varieties of bread that are crispy and fresh. I also bought a loaf of the seeded bread which was even crispy after 3 days. The salads are of generous portion but pretty standard in ingredient combination. The warm chicken entree was very good as well - nicely prepared with herbs. Lastly, the latte is very flavorful not like some areas that serve a latte that tastes like there was only milk in your cup. It's a superb location and a much better choice for coffee and a healthy bite anytime.
