Went to Applewood for our anniversary dinner. Great dinner, until the waiter decided to choose our dessert for us without our consent. We were looking forward to specific desserts which were in season. The waiter's decision put a dapper on our special day.

While the place is adorable (think park slope brownstone meets new england country house), the portions are tiny! I understand the whole organic, sustainable farming thing they have going on here and that may account for the high prices and the small portions, but it is kind of ridiculous. The lobster appetizer was literally 2 pieces of lobster and a dollop of greens, you could have eaten the whole thing in one bite. The main courses (venison, fish), looked like appetizers. Other than mini portions, the food is quite good, the atmosphere is very cutesy, and the cocktails are interesting.

We ordered the prix fixe here. Everything they served us was absolutely delicious. The service was attentive an refreshingly unpretentious for a restuarant of this caliber. They even brought us little snacks between courses that weren't on the menu! I recommend Applewood to everone.
