    Steve Aoki would be down.

I go to Aoki once every week for their lunch special with some co-workers. The prices are comparable to most other Manhattan sushi lunch specials (great value), but their fish is super fresh and just consistently great. It is almost always served at a perfect temperature and it's always busy during lunch. Big fan.

This Place Has Become a Total Coin Toss

When it's good, Aoki can hang with the best of them. When it's bad (like tonight), I feel like taking them to small claims court. I exaggerate a little, but only because I expect top quality from them, and when their sushi is sub-par, it's like a kick in the nuts. I've been trying to crack the code on this, because it's always either really good or really bad sushi, and never in the middle. So I've been trying to find a pattern: good at night, bad during the day. Or good on weekends, bad on weekdays. Or good weekend nights, bad weekdays, etc. But it seems very random. Example: last Monday night it was extremely fresh. This Monday night (tonight) it was unfresh. Not to say it was rotten, but there were certain pieces I couldn't finish because they just weren't fresh enough. Even the fresh salmon was no good. Took one bite and left the rest alone. I strongly suggest Aoki's manager and owner start practicing some quality control. Or at least clue their loyal customers in to when is good to order and when is not. Because I don't think I can do another evening of sub-par sushi, no matter how fresh they are on a good night. Not at these prices, sorry guys.

    Very Good This Time

I'll admit this place isn't the most consistent, but I just had a really really good experience ordering. The sushi was amazingly fresh and tasty. Among the best I've had in NYC in a very long time. I can't speak for what went on with those who said the Aoki went downhill recently, all I can tell you is this was a really good night for them. Hopefully this means they're back.

sad sad sad... what has happened to Aoki

I used to go to Aoki over a year ago.. and the food and value was always great... i order takeout all the time also as i live in the Hood.. I went again the other night and was really disappointed, the services was really bad, the waiter was crass and rude, and the food was not fresh.. we had a few apps to start and when they arrived favorless and not fresh we knew that Aoki had gone down hill... very sad, would not recommend it at all... I eat Sushi 4 times a week, I know good and bad Sushi, this was really Bad....
