tour de france avec steriods
there was something French about the place... at least on the menu. But when the food actually arrived is was gigantic Americanized versions of the real thing. Which, mind you, is not a bad thing depending on how hungry (or hungover) you are. I went for brunch (the latter applied) and opted for a salad: frisee aux lardon. Ca c'est TRES bien, but it was sky high! wow-wee! I was expecting a petite French version yet out came a green mountain. And then we decided we should give the gelato a shot- pourquoi pas? Again, expecting petite boules de glace... and out came massive fist-sized scoops of ice cream! Well, even though the portions were vastly excessive, everything was surprisingly délicieux.

Much better than expected
Prices were reasonable, ate in the garden in October, pleasant experience. Food well prepared, a variety of food, excellent mussles and fries, good burger, trout tasty. portions large and fairly priced. will return

Great for standard French bistro fare
I was a little unsure about AOC due to the mixed reviews but decided to give it a try. It was a wonderful experience overall, and I'd definitely recommend it if you're in the mood for standard French bistro fare. We sat inside but the garden looked like it would be really nice on a warmer night. The service was good; our waiter was attentive and very helpful with wine selections. The food was also lovely - my hangar steak was cooked perfectly and my father enjoyed his duck confit. The warm goat cheese salad was awesome and we also enjoyed the pate. One thing worth noting - they only take AmEx or cash.

disappointing food
the food is really not that great - i actually sent back my lamb shank as it had no taste at all. the meat was old....like it was in the fridge for way too long. i am not american so i generally don't find the service in restaurants good - they always rush you and this one is no exception. my entree arrived before i finished my starter - no, that was not acceptable to me. the waitress should have checked before bringing the food over - we all know how small tables are in NYC restaurants. That was just stupid. no i would not recommend this place at all. but if you like mediocre food, by all means go there. It does have a nice garden though.

A classic ripoff
Disappointing food & very expensive drinks... A cheaper bar food appetizer menu is used as a ruse to upsell those high priced drinks at the bar. $12 uninspired drinks (vodka + soda in a small glass filled with ice) - you feel blissfully cheated after each drink. I'd rather go to centro vinoteca around the corner for great cocktails & wine. And for bistro french I'd go to odeon or balthazar.

Just aweful
The poor quality of the food was matched only by the bad service. Avoid this place.

X with the AMEX
Apparently, AOC management forgot they're in NYC. AFTER we finished eating, they happened to mention that they only take AMEX or cash. Something like this should be nicely mentioned BEFORE dinner, not after dinner. I had a feeling they were trying to shake me down. The staff also forgot that a tip should be earned by good service.
