A very cute little cafe nestled in NYC. I had the butternut squash soup which was delicious! It came with a nice piece of baked bread with rosemary on top which was baked right there in their kitchen I believe. The lady behind the counter let me try a little sample of a couple soups to help me decide. I also got a chocolate chip cookie for dessert because I heard good things about them & it was so decadent! Yummm! I also got a spiced chai tea which was also quite delicious. They have all sorts or delicious wraps and sandwiches (made with bread they bake themselves) and empanadas and baked goods and soups and teas and coffees. Check them out and see for yourself! For about $10 I was able to get soup with bread, a cookie, and hot chai tea for a full lunch. I wasn't even able to finish all of my soup (I ate my dessert early I confess) I would go back again for more.

The chocolate chip cookies are the BEST in New York. Really. I've sat in the store having my coffee, when every other customer who comes in asks for the "Chocolate Chip Cookies"...and many times they are sold out. But they are the BEST! Big creamy chunks of milk chocolate against a crackling cookie dough. Absolutely wonderful. Also, the chicken salad sandwiches are devine. The salad is homemade...and on special herb greens and homemade baked bread. Absolutely great! I'm not crazy about the soups given they are not very spicy...but bland in overall taste and flavor. I've had better soups which I bought at Citerella. But yes, the cakes are wonderful. Chocolate mouse especially. Creamy mouse filling against a wonderful deep chocolate glaze with delicious dark chocolate cake filling. And the Lemon Merange tarts are the best in the city. The lemon is creamy with just the right tart against and delicious whipped suggary topping. One spoonful of this and you'll be in sugar heaven. It only takes a little to satisfy. Absolutely delecious. Enjoy your adventures at Anneleise. It has some wonderful things that will totally satisfy! I only wish she had a bigger place with more window. How about the opportunity of sitting out. That would make the place so charming. It is small however, but so many neighborhood fans of the place come in for take out. There could be a line at times from people coming home from work and making a stop off to get their daily favorite items. Enjoy!

The butternut squash soup with bread is out of this world (and cheap!). I get this at least twice a week and, after months, I am still not sick of it. They gladly give me an additional piece of bread upon request. The staff members are incredibly kind and eager to chat. The service is always quick, even if there are a lot of people in line to get the delicious hazelnut coffee or various muffins. You can even get a cheap dinner here! The veggie burgers and tuna sandwiches are delish!

I love this place, it's so affordable, i usually have to get short cake from Juniors, but its a $3 price difference, I'm definitely sticking with Anneliese,I ordered Shortcake, they made it fresh right before my eyes even the whipped cream, i love the soup and empanada combo.

this place is great for desserts especially the chocolate mousse cake it is always fresh and the service is great -(always pleasant) almond croissants and apple tarts are also very good!

I walk past this store everyday after work, and many things are left out overnight. If you're looking for fresh warm pastries, this isn't the place. Avoid the apricot tart. Good Chai Tea though...

this place makes the best carrot cake ive ever had! their strawberry shortcake is ok (nothing spectacular) but it comes no where close to their carrot cake. you gotta try it!
