Poor service, no A/C. Good food, served in smal quantity.
NO A/C on a hot muggy day on Memorial day. Cold water was served within a few minutes. Nobody came for 15 minutes to take a drinks order. Then it took 15 mins and me having to ask again before the beer came. The food was tasting good but not great, the quantity was small, and the food was not warm (temperature). That was a di-aster. The prices are high and what worse is curry priced as $15 does not come with rice!

Huge menu with nothing available
So, after being told by the waiter, who came back after a 15 minute wait with no attention to us, that we had to decide within just a few minutes as the kitchen was closing, we were told that nothing we wanted from the menu was available. OK, let's try some other choices. Again, nothing available. So, we asked, what is actually availbale? We got a rather rude repsonse on the lines of, "everything except what you just asked for". Try again, and our new choices were not available. Went for some basic generic Indian items that we wouldn't have paid so much for at a place like this as we left it to them to bring us stuff - apart from the rudeness, we regretted staying and felt we should have just left.

Priced for special occasions only.
I am Chettiar (i.e from Chettinad), and took my girlfriend to Anjappar with hopes of wowing her with our cuisine. I was disappointed that there was almost no real Chettinad dishes there. The few Chettinad items they had on the menu weren't available, according to the waitress. The appetizer was delicious and well presented, but the main was so loaded with chillies and spice that even I was sweating. The service was a bit chaotic and not smooth. That might be teething issues. A dinner for two with one drink each, an appetizer and two entrees came to $80. A bit pricey for my tastes unless it's a special occasion.

Best in NYC
I have tried scores of Indian Restaurants in New York. This is definitely the best I have had. Large menus offering delights for Vegans and the rest of us. The Crab Masala was outstanding and the parathas the best on the planet. You can't go wrong especially if you like authentic Indian Cuisine.

Nice Indian experience
We were excited to find that Anjappar finally opened in New York! And our visit there proved to be very satisfying. One of the best places in town to get indian food. Its kind of on the spicier side and gives the nostalgic Indian feeling, especially with the server taking orders in Tamil. Service is friendly and attentive and prices are keen. Its definitely our next favorite spot in the city!

Great!
I loved everything about this place. The waiters were attentive and the food was amazing. I tried new entrees when the waiter recommended dishes that were delicious.
