Avoid at all cost!
Craving a good steak? This place will only lead to disappointment. If you're going to spend this kind of money, there are at least a dozen other steakhouses in the city that would be a better option. First, they overcooked my steak -- literally well done -- after I ordered medium rare. They quickly took it away, only to replace it with a "peppered" version I didn't order. After four bites my mouth was on fire and I realized they had screwed up again. Honestly, who eats steak like that anyway? Unfortunately, the waiter didn't see fit to return to our table until some time later. By then I had given up on my barely touched steak and on Angelo and Maxie's. I told the waiter they messed up my order for the second time and he said, "sorry for the mix up." To my dismay, when the bill came they still had the audacity to charge me for the full amount. After screwing my order up twice and never bringing me what I ordered... REALLY? Seriously, just go somewhere else where you know you'll get great steak, done the way you want, excellent service, and good value. Don't risk going here. Need suggestions? Peter Luger's, Old Homestead, Mark Joseph's, Delmonico's, Del Frisco's, Morton's, Ruth's Chris, Strip House, Primehouse and Outback (yes Outback is better). I could go on...

disappointing
...Unless you have a burning desire to be pistol whipped in the wallet and the psyche. We made a mistake thinking a restaurant that lived this long in NYC was something special. These august dining regulars to the NY restaurant scene have awarded Angelo and Maxie's four black holes for service, quality, food and price.

This steak place has been the most favourite place for me in the whole city. I would come there in good times two times a week. I guess with the recession they no longer care for their reputation. I stayed and waited for my missing salad from my take out lunch for over 20 minutes, and I was fine with that - "things happen". But the moment I left the restaurant my take out lunch bag (yes, I do order $23 lunch from their too) collapsed on my white pants on the street because of the source that leaked out of the meat container. Guess what they did? Nothing. When I got to talk to the owner, he didn't offer and refused to keep this lunch complementary. Oh, yes, he offered me to bring my dry cleaning receipt... so much for good service. I am not coming back for free lunch offer, neither I bring my friends with me.

Eat this avergage food and get out!
Although a nice atmosphere, this "steak house" has poor service and only average food. We had a party of around 20 people there on a Saturday night, spent around $2300, and after eating our subpar food, we were forced to leave. Not recommended.

Spend your money elsewhere
Went there with my wife on Valentine's Day...Service was just plain awful. Our waiter's very first words to us were "you good?" as in "are you ready to order even though you sat down 3 minutes ago?" It took me a couple of seconds to understand what the heck he was trying to ask me, it was so unexpected, especially at a pricey steak house. I get better service at my local diner, and that is the truth. Overall, the service was impossibly rushed. It took them .5 seconds after the removal of our appetizer salads to usher in the steaks. We were trying desperately to take our time because it was so obvious they were trying to rush us out of there. The couple next to us sat down after we did and were gone well before us, their meal clocking in at less than an hour, which is crazy for a Saturday night, and Valentine's Day no less. It was really an unpleasant experience overall. To top it off, the food was not as good as I remembered. Everything was over-salted, over-garliced, over-dressed, etc. Maybe the mistake was going there on Valentine's Day, but it was crowded so we weren't the only ones with a hankering for steak. Clearly, the restaurant was not interested in quality service and instead they cared more about turning tables over in record time. That's the recession for ya, I guess. I won't be going back for a long time. To his credit, the manager seemed to take my complaints to heart. I bet he had a lot of unhappy customers on that night...Bottom line is they need to get their act together because if people are spending well over $75/person for dinner, they should get their money's worth.

Steak is just okay.
Steak in Angelo and Maxie's is just okay, not as good as what i have expected. My steak is definitely overcook (i order medium rare). The service is fantastic, the price is reasonable, and the portion is unbelievable, but the food sucks. I would say this is a value steak house, but not a outstanding one. If you really want to have good steaks in nyc, go to somewhere else.

Retirement party during restaurant week--party of 7. Ample menu everyone satisfied with food and price. Service very accomodating. I have been here at least a half dozen times and never disappointed.
