Great Flavors & Great Value!
It seems odd that there's so much polarization about Angelica's. Our experience was pretty good. Neither of us are vegetarians and both of us loved the food. It definitely didn't "all taste the same." The soups were excellent. My chile, while not a typical "Mexican" style, had great flavor, spice and texture, and my wife's spicy potatoes (cumin plus cardomom, done correctly) were also great. I'd certainly go again and recommend it to others. Excellent meal for $20 each including tip. Try it!

bland, totally uncreative
I've been a vegan for more than 35 years, longer than Angelica has been in existence. I generally avoid this place unless other people want to eat there and I'm outvoted, and such was the case tonight--we just returned from Angelica. I know how delicious and creative vegan cuisine can be but unfortunately Angelica opts for blandness and formula cooking. Everything on the menu tastes essentially the same; there is no thought or innovation going into the dishes. Angelica just doesn't cut it.

LOVE THIS PLACE!
Great, organic, vegan food! Love the warm ambience. (Very clean also.) Be prepared to wait because it is almost always packed. The only real negative for me is the wait staff. Attentive, but not very warm and friendly, to say the least.

best vegetarian I can think of
Once upon a time, when I lived in the city, we used to eat here every Tuesday. Not by my choice at the time all I wanted to eat was Mexican (eh, tex-mex, really). Also, I'm not a vegetarian, and really not vegan, so I was always like 'what's a tempeh?' Because of that I got the special a lot and mostly let others around me choose my entire meal. And, yes, at the worst, it was sometimes bland. But it was often excellent (and then I'd be like 'what's a croquet? isn't that a game we played at Dean and Mary's?') Now that I live in the yicky not-city I really miss being able to go out to eat and not feel disgusting afterward. In the rest of the country, you know, it's all Red Lobster and the Olive Garden which is all just a pile of hydrogenated oils. Which, yes, you do get enough of to take home. (That review really ticked me off - people who eat like that or think that is proper food will surely get what they deserve, no?)

One of the best Vegetarian restaurants
Angelica Kitchen is one of the best Vegetarian restaurants I've been too, and I've eaten at nearly every Vegetarian restaurant in the city. Not only is the food good, but the wait staff is consistently excellent, the atmosphere is great and you're supporting great things by eating there- they support local farmer and small local business, use mostly organic produce, and treat their employees well (I've worked with several people who have worked at Angelica). Although they don't accept credit cards, which I've seen mentioned in several reviews on here as a negative, I have no problem with it- credit card companies take a huge chunk of revenue from businesses and it's absurd- I completely support their no credit card decision. My favorite dishes are they hot open faced tempeh sandwich, the marinated tofu sandwich, the kim chee, walnut-lentil pate, carrot ginger spread and corn bread, and the parfaits. Highly recommended for discerning Vegetarians.

Good healthy healthy food
I don't understand what people expect from a organic vegan place. Find me a place that can serve you organic food this healthy for a better price. Only if you make it yourself. And not even that, since a trip to any farmer's market these days will cost you a lot more. Can food taste better? Sure, but how much more oil or sugar would you have to pump into it? You get the idea. Not being a vegan or even vegetarian, I left with the impression that my body was thanking me for the meal.

Great food on Wednesday 7/30/08
I had lunch at Angelica today with 6 other people. Service was excellent. The food was awesome. I got the Si Se Puede salad and hibiscus chiller. Very very good. The tea was pretty good. Their hummus is excellent. It is not crunchy as a previous comment said. I am a vegetarian, and I wish I could cook as well as them! The staff was extremely friendly! Can't wait to go back.
