Came here after clubbing Saturday night and they really could've closed at 12am if the service I received is the norm. Maybe they figured we were all too lit up to notice the poor service, bad food and rude behavior of the staff there late night. Fish was thick and dry. Grits were well gritty and dry too. The eggs were overcooked, and I could've killed someone with my cornbread. Shucks, had I known while I was in there.....it was a mess! There was what I can only call a "bouncer" standing at the register barking orders but not assisting with anything except being loud and intimidating. Even though the 1 guy at the register for takeout was clearly overwhelmed. My food sat in the window for 10 minutes (while I waitched it) and when I had the audacity to ask for my food, I was glared at and given the "eye roll and sigh" as though I was the problem. Like I said, never again and if they can't serve decent food and provide good service late night, please do us all a favor and close at your normal time. Save your money guys or drink A LOT before you come, maybe you won't notice.

I went & ordered take out and was very dissappointed because I didn't get the amount I paid for. I orderd the Honey Diped Chicken Entree which came with two sides (Mac & Cheese, and Corn). The total was exactly $15.12. 1st of all I got 1 piece of leg, drumstick and thigh (still kept together). What? are you serious?? Even KFC's leg & thigh was bigger then that. The sides were sort of a decent size, but the piece of chicken would not even fill up a 5 year. Now, don't get me wrong because the food was tasty, but nothing to go raving about or to make me want to go back anytime soon. It just wasn't filling enough, I still was a bit hungry after that, and I don't even eat alot. I think for the price I paid, they should have at least put 2 peices of legs in the order. Oh yeah, and they give you alittle dried up piece of cornbread too. My mom makes better cornbread than they do. I'm upset I wasted Car fare & $15 on that place... Never again, unless someone else is treating.

Whenever I feel like Southern food but don't want to cook, I go to Amy Ruth for a good meal. Their food is authentic without being overly greasy or unhealthy. I am sure to have a delicious meal whenever I go there. Unfortunately, I do take great exception to their service. Once I ordered the side dish veggie plate (food that is already cooked) and it took 45 minutes from order to serving me, not to mention the 15 minutes waiting to give the order. recently, I waited 6 minutes, before walking out, during which no one so much as even acknowledged my presence. Who knows how long I would have be left waiting. If you can deal with the slack service, then you will receive not only an authentic but a tasty meal. Admittedly, the service in the back room is better than the front and overall once you get the water's attention, you have a chance of getting service. I am terribly frustrated by the lackidasical service in this restaurant, however , and will be avoiding it. In fact I am hoping the owners will see this review and take action. I could use a good piece of fried chicken.

If you go at lunch, be prepared for at least a half hour wait before a waiter takes your order, and then another 20 minutes before you recieve your food. The food is tasty that's for sure but Soul food does not mean "saline" food and the dish I had was so salty it raised my blood pressure to such a level that it ruined my entire day.

I go to Amy Ruth's only when I am really desperate because it is across the street from my home. There are many better soul food restaurants in Harlem. Tonight I called to order takeout, and was told that they don't accept takeout orders after 10:00pm. It was 10:05. I walked in and ordered an entree and two sides. As the person behind the counter ran my credit card, he made a comment about how I should not be ordering two starches. Then he told me that they don't have my entree after running my credit card. When I decided to change the entree, he tried to charge me the difference of one dollar. This is after another server told him that they did not have my first choice (he didn't know himself). I told him that he should not have charged me for the first entree if they didn't have it and in either case, I should not be charged for the entree change. He agreed, then he told me that he deleted my first order and needed to charge my card again, but did not want to give me the receipt showing that he had credited the account. I finally re-ordered and he charged my credit card a second time. Then as I got ready to get my food and leave, he told me that he did not have one of my sides. Another server said that because of the election celebrations two days ago, they were now out of food. I understand that, but I don't understand why the people actually taking orders don't know what food they have but charge people anyway.
I love this place! Great service (except when I want more water, strangely), Great Food, Great place to people watch... For the love of God, please have someone at your table order the honey dipped chicken. It's like manna from Heaven! And the collard greens are the best I've ever had at a restaurant. The mac is decent too.... Oh yeah, and the potato salad!
