not very impressive with this food
i usual go to indigo indian resturant on 357 east 50. i wanted a little change so i decided to try amma with a group of friends. i heard it was a good resturant. so a group of us had a seat and had to wait for 5 mins. for a waiter to hand us some menus. then it took a waiter at least an half-hour to come and take our order mind you they only had three tables there so they werent busy at all. after that the food wasnt even that great.

Extremely pushy staff
I have been to Amma on an off for the last 6 years and think highly of the quality of their preparation. Of late, I have been extremely irritated with the "salesy" and "extremely pushy" behavior of the staff at Amma. On my last visit, I was told that they do not encourage sharing and they had a one main course order per person policy. I think the staff does not realize how creamy and spicy the food is for one person to consume the entire portion. After the main course, when I was handed the dessert menu, I was asked if I was going to share the dessert as well in a condescending manner.

My favorite Indian in the City
My husband and I had the two course lunch special for $11.95, which came with dal and naan. I ordered the chicken tikka. It was the best I've ever had and I've had a lot of Indian food. The chicken was very tender and very flavorful. My husband had the chicken tikka masala and it was delicious. The masala sauce was not greasy and very flavorful. I love this restaurant and highly recommend it!

Take Out Dissapointment
I've eaten at a lot of indian restaraunts in the midtown east side and i was very dissapointed with the taste and quality of their dishes. i had two vegetarian dishes and a samosa all of which were lacking. im not going to order out from this place again.

A nice find
What a pleasant little surprise in midtown east. The dinner prices may be expensive, but the lunch deals are fantastic - an appetizer and main meal for 12 bucks! The apricot stuffed lamb is truly wonderful. A lovely change from most other indian restaurants.
