not a smile, not a thank you, not a smidgen of interest displayed by the waiter. Usually this doesn't matter too much, especially when the food is good South Indian stuff and when one is with good friends but today, dull and rainy anyway, was somehow made more dismal by the dismissive, almost surly staff.

This is unquestionably the best Indian food on the upper west side, fresh high quality ingredients, excellent flavor, beautiful spices. My takeout was warm and was delivered very quickly. Service is the restaurant is lovely. No question that this food is terrific.

This was the second visit by me to Alma. My wife who has an office nearby, a real Indian food foodee has come more often. The food is spiced superbly-I had the salmon tikka, which was the best salmon dish I've had anywhere. My wife had a chicken dish, which was just as good. The night we were there, a luxury tourist bus pulled up, and out came 30 or so Indian tourists from Calcutta. I guess they know what good Indian food is about-we certainly got it at Alma.

I ordered delivery from Alma, when i was stuck at home, and was pleasantly surprised at what a good value, and how delicious it was . Today I was able to go by and eat at the restaurant, and was even more astounded that it wasn't crowded to the gills. The food is exceptional, in that it is very fresh and very different from the other Indian places in our neighborhood. I would love to try everything on the menu. I have never had Coconut Chutney and now i crave it :) Try this place particularly for lunch, great value, good food

I don't know if I just had a bad experience, but the food I got last night was not good. Dinner-ruining not good. The samosa was dry and overcooked and not hot (I live 2 blocks away). The masala was SO sweet and the chicken was rubbery and fatty. I didn't even eat it. The only edible thing was the naan, and they forgot my raita. Never again. I'll go to Aangan instead.

Here is a restaurant that offers whole food along with a simple and cordial customer experience. Evidenced by an authentic taste and smooth digestion, the meals are clearly prepared without excessive sugar, oil, salt or food additives and I have rated it accordingly. I recommend Amla without reservations as it represents only a pinch of restaurants in NYC that I eat in that live up to the standard.

I had seen this space coming up and looked like they never will open. I just returned to find the place is open & what a great it has turned out to be. I was there on Labor Day with my family. The restaurant was busy, the simple interior looks beautifu and very clean. Excellent quality food and service. They are little costlier than the other place but value for money. Lamb sookah was the pick of the dishes as was the Goan Garlic Shrimp. A complimentary dessert called Firni (dont remember the full name) was outstanding. The Manager who checked on our table explained the menu and the name 'Amla' in detail and to my curios Moms satisfaction. All in all a great meal. shall certainly return. By the way the waitress who served us was among the most joyous person to work a floor anywhere! It is bit noicy and good for quiet discussions.
