Wow - What a huge price increase
The place is so dated and dark, but the staff is nice. The recent price increase was huge - and they are definitely cutting back on quality - things like the eggs are a different grade now. I may not be visiting any more. It is just not worth it.

overpriced
prices here have increased rapidly and the quality does not match the increase. soups are poor quality and portions not worth the price.

Tops in overpricing
All of their prices have gone up, way up. Many (if not most) of the dinner dishes were over $20, a few were in the $15 range. For what? diner food? $11.50 for the gyro platter (a few slices of overcooked meat), salad (large enough but only oil & vinegar offered-why wouldn't it have come with a Greek dressing?), and fries (quite forgettable)all on one plate. No room to maneuver the food. Mozzarella sticks OK but only a few at $7.50? Lentil soup ($3.50) was OK. $30 total tab for an average meal that should have cost no more than $20. Service was good tho. Spend your money at a restaurant.

Not advisable for dinner
$29.50 for a lukewarm omelette, a "hot open sandwich" which consisted of some deli ham (the bad stuff) and instant mashed potatoes. Take that as you will. The only thing worse than the food was the look their delivery boy gave me when I "only" tipped him $2.50. Not sure if I have the wrong idea what I should tip delivery men, but I doubt it. This place should stick to breakfast and close around 12.

Nice calm, place with an older clientele
... and old folks generally means good food! And it was good food. We got breakfast, Eggs. Nothing fancy but a lot of it and delicious stuff. No complaints at all. Just don't go there if you are overly obese, it's not the city's most spacious diner.

Great Find
I've been living in the UES now for a few years, and have always passed Amity on my way to David Barton Gym. Normally I head over to Dean and Deluca for a bite after my workout. However, now I'm on a diet (thanks to my trainer!). So I walked in there one morning after my workout, and ordered an egg-white omelette. I ordered it dry and plain... I was expecting a oily "diner" omelette. I WAS WRONG! It was the best! Great big omelette with lots of vegetables. Now, twice a week I stop by for my omelette! Also, I meet with my friends for lunch for their great salads. Their greek salad with chicken, is definately my favorite. Give it a try-- supposedly its a neighborhood institution. They have a strong following.

Perfect
If you want wonderful coffeeshop food, a real UES neighborhood feeling, and good service this is the best place. I go in all the time and LOVE their soups (especially the barley and chicken soup), burgers, and club sandwhiches. Yummy!
