I was a little wary based on some of the reviews, but the food the three of us shared the other night was fantastic. We had one of the best tuna rolls I've ever had (with tuna on top of tuna and avocado), veggie dumplings were very good, the pad thai was awesome and so were the drinks. The music was absolutely cheesy (some techno awfulness) and the decor tries a little too hard coming off as some sort of Tao light but the food was amazing and the staff was really nice.

I was encouraged to go to Amber based on the other reviews, but I was sorely disappointed. It is a place that tries to be cool and happening, but instead it is just loud and overdone. My companion ordered a shrimp tempura roll which came with cucumber - something he doesn't eat and when he tried to have his order corrected, he was basically chastised for it. (Eventually, a shrimp tempura roll without cucumber did arrive.) The food was very expensive for what it was most of the "special rolls" are around $16 or $17. Not a great addition to the sushi scene on the UWS.

Ate @ UWS Amber on a busy Saturday nite, pre-theatre. Very pleased with what we ordered: Summer Rolls (crispy vegetables and shrimp), Beef Negamaki, Taro Bird's Nest (filled w/ mix of musrooms, vegetables & shrimp) Broiled Salmon (well-cooked but still moist inside) Thai Green Curry Sushi & Sashimi combo (generously sized pieces of fish for sashimi, tasty [select]ion, well-made handroll). All dishes were distinct in their flavors and adequately represented the Pan-Asian nature of the place. Dined in the relatively peaceful back room, high-ceilinged and dominated by a large Buddha surrounded by a Koi-pond fountain, a pleasant atmosphere. Service prompt and cheerful.

I love Amber! Service is very attentive. The special rolls are excellent. I have liked everything that I have tried here. Definitely worth it!

Sushi…tasteless. Pad Thai…oily. Wasabi Shu Mai … lukewarm and bland. Sadly the experience wasn’t “priceless” …it cost two of us $75 before tip, including $9 for one piece of alleged toro sushi. The fish was not fresh, nor did it have any flavor whatsoever – except for the spicy crunchy roll that remained uneaten on our plate. The service, on the surface, is OK, if not a bit overbearing (asked 3x to order, hovering to clear a plate). But when we left ½ of the entire sushi order on the plate, uneaten, no one seemed to bat an eye, inquire why, or really seem to care.

Went there the other week for dinner on a Friday night - we sat at the sushi bar (no wait) and received comlementary sashimi. Food was great - excellent soup - excellent sushi. As we were sitting at the bar, a larger group wanted to sit there, they asked us to move over a couple of seats to make room for the new party, and gave us complementary deserts for our troubles - green tea crepes were excellent. overall the service was great - my water was always full, dishes taken once finished, but we never felt rushed. A real supprise for the UWS.

Dine in or Order delivery, Amber will please! Pleasantly surprised - dont let the cheesy sign on the outside fool you... Amber has a great chill vibe - very cool decor that takes you away from the typical feel of the UWS. My expectations were for the next here today gone tomorrow restaurant, and sushi no less...make no mistake, this is NOT what Amber is about. They servered elegant, fresh and delicious fish - its hard to make original sushi dishes but Amber pulls it off. Dont be afraid to move away from the sushi as the pad thai was one of the best i've had in the area.
