Went there yesterday. The food was really good (spider roll, shrimp tempura roll). The service very average. Very limited space (tables close to each other) not much privacy, but it was worth it. I would go back there for a 1/2hour snack.

Went to Amber last night after the Met Museum, will definitely go back when I am in the neighborhood. We were really surprised by the quality of the sushi... great service from the waiter. Prices are fair, considering the location on 80/3rd. Bad points: the tables are little too close to each other, and they ran out of hot & sour soup (at 6:30 PM on a Saturday night?!) and there were a lot of children there but I suppose that's not the restaurant's fault. But this restaurant is really really great. Definitely recommend it!

I order Amber's lunch delivery more than I'd like to admit. Their dinner is fabulous too, I love their drinks. The atmosphere is cool too- recently I brought some out of towners (Southern folks from the good ole state of TN) and they were highly impressed. Said it was "so New York."

There is no better place to get Japanese food on the upper east side of Manhattan. The sushi is fresh, large, and reasonably priced. The service is excellent, and the atmosphere -- particularly in the quiet, TV free, candle lit back room is sublime. Add to this cocktails that are truly unique -- I particularly recommend the frozen green tea margharita -- a total yumfest will be had by all -- guaranteed!!!

Amber has amazing Asian cuisine but above that I would give it five stars for their cocktail menu. They make the second best lychee martini in Manhattan (after Nobu's of course). Yum!

We visited Amber the last time we were passing through NYC. It was recommended by a friend who lives in the area. We found the sushi extraordinary. It was a little more pricey than what we are used to in the Boston area BUT the portions were larger and the quality was excellent. We plan to eat here whenever we are in the city.

Sushi was good, drinks were good but the service should be rated 1 out of 30 on Zagat. First a waiter was keep asking us if we are ready to order. Then the manager came and asks us to give up one table since they needed more tables for other customers. So, seven of us (everyone was under 170 lbs) had squeeze in at our table. For grand finale, when we asked for a desert menus we have been told that they RUN OUT. To explain themselves they said that they had a busy Friday night!!!! I think they just wanted to sit the next group at our table and this was an excuse.
