Amazing Sushi
Great sushi, very fresh, great service, well managed. Only complaint is that the music upstairs is very loud. Trendy ambiance.

Music spoils otherwise great time
I order delivery from Amber and loved the food - thought I would try dining in. A few thoughts: The space is great- loft like 3 levels, brick walls, modern design, friendly staff. The music -we almost left twice in the first 10 minutes. The music wasn't "cheesy" (which I could have handled) so much as it as it was nightclub loud. Very heavy bass beat, then some musica lantina (think the tv ad for optimum triple play), and even a selection from the movie Rocky - I kid you not. All fine music in the right setting. Just not at dinner. Finally after 3 requests they toned it down. Seriously - they don't have to play elevator music. Many very cool place play great upbeat music in the dining room. Amber - please- go to one of them and get their music.

delicious fresh sushi!
The atmosphere is a little cheesy and the music a little too loud but the sushi is fantastic! The fish is very fresh and they use minimal rice in their sushi rolls, which is the way they should be made! I also like how they offer brown rice and have a variety of appetizers you don't usually see at sushi restaurants. There is plenty on the menu for non-fish eaters as well.

P.S.
Just to add to my review below. I agree with another reviewer that the music in the restaurant was too loud (especially since I didn't like their selection). I requested that they lower it, and they did -- a little but enough so I could hear my dinner partner. I can see where it could be an issue.

I Agree, Good Find/Beautiful Sushi
I'm always interested in finding a good asian fusion restaurant that will satisfy my passion for sushi yet still have plenty of other options for my non-sushi eating boyfriend. This place definitely makes my list. We ate there last night and had a fine experience. The sashimi was lovely. One of my peeves with this website is that everybody says "best sushi in Manhattan or in the neighborhood" for almost every sushi restaurant. Clearly that is not so but many people just do not know the difference. I always order sashimi rather than the special rolls, so there is no fooling me -- the fish has to be ultra fresh. The sashimi platter at Amber was gorgeous and so, so fresh. Fish was cut thin, as it should be, but the pieces were large. The variety and quantity for $22 was unexpected and there were extra special touches like cucumber ends filled with tobiko and some sort of tartare. My boyfriend had a chicken appetizer of some sort which he had to roll himself in lettuce. The portion was large enough for 2. His dinner was the chilean sea bass in black bean sauce. Curiously, the portion looked small to me, but he said it was enough -- probably because the appetizer was so large. Anyhow, he liked both very much. Besides my sashimi, I had the "field greens" salad which was really a mixed salad with romaine and oddly some raisins. Ginger dressing very good. No desserts. Since we came early, we got the 2 for 1 drink special (until 7:00). I think it is definitely worth giving this location a try, although I've read some negative reviews of the uptown branches. Oh yes, the service was very good/attentive, but it was quite early and uncrowded. For some reason, a few of my sashimi pieces came with a little sauce on them which I did not expect or like, and they quickly brought me 4 pieces to replace the 3 they took away.

Great Birthday dinner!!!
It was my boyfriend's birthday and we has such a great time there. It was 14 people. This was the prefect place to have a birthday dinner, because not everyone is a sushi lover. Other people order the sea bass and the duck and they were not disappointed. We order a lot of food plus drinks and it was only under $800. keep it mind that we order drinks, entree, appetizer, and some order desserts. Split it 13 ways not including the birthday boy and we only pay 60 bucks. The values and the trendy place makes it a great place for young generations. The portions are great and the fishes are fresh here. Plus the manager gave us all free shots and a small chocolate cake for my boyfriend. He also gave us a free salmon appetizer. We didn't even have to wait long for a table. Great food, great time and great service, you can't beat it.

great find
I live in the area and wanted a good sushi place to goto with another couple that was reasonably priced. Amber has a great atmosphere--a little on the trendy side with modern music without being stuffy or overly pricey. Good value on the wine, 3 of us each got sushi for 1 which is a really big platter! we substituted yellowtail jalepeno instead of eel and it was great. Easily could have got 2 of the entrees for the 3 of us. The other got a shrimp tempura roll which was awesome, a vegetable roll which was a little too vegetabley/gardeny. She also got the mango chicken entree which was also really good. Service was attentive and unrushed. Will be back.
