    Excellent

My wife and I tried this place on a whim. We were greeted at the door by the friendly manager (ask for Tony) and shown to our table. Our server explained the six specials and then let us peruse the menu. I ended up getting the sea bass and my wife got a pasta special. Both were amazing. I've never had Italian food like this before. It was kept simple and fresh. I will one hundred percent come back to this place, hands down.

    Fast Food Italian Style

Had reservations for 4:45pm after a theater matinee. Arrived early and were seated right away. After ordering drinks, our waiter asked us if we were ready to order. We asked him if there were any specials. He ran off 3 or 4 that we weren't interested in, so we ordered from the menu. After our salads were brought, we heard another waiter read off many more specials for that evening. Our waiter also offered many more specials to diners who entered the restaurant after us. When we questioned him why we weren't offered those same specials, he replied that the chef hadn't told him that night's specials until after we were served. All in all we were rushed through a 3 course meal in 45minutes flat! We will never return.

    Unfortunately, recommeded by our hotel

We were told by our hotel concierge that this resturant was excellant. So we went on a Tuesday night. Apparently, they were to busy to be bothered by my husband and I. We were begrugendly seated. At which time we sat for a few minutes. They our waiter came by. Asked if we wanted mineral water or tap. We opted for tap. Ten more minutes went by. We were then asked if we wanted a glass of wine. I asked if we could see a wine menu. After we chose our wine we finally heard about the specials, which our hotel conciege said were the best!! I ordered the bass and my husband a pasta dish. Right after being seated, I could smell a strong cigarette smoke. After asking the waiter about this he said no, no one was smoking in the restaurant. It was so strong I could hardly believe it. So waited for our food. Smelling cigarette smoke and wondering what was going on. Our appetizer came. It was ok. We waited for our main course. I went to the bathroom. When I came back my bass was served. I was suprised thinking this was to be deboned tableside as my server had told me. I took a bite and it was cold. Not too impressive. Please don't come to this establishment to be impressed. It will not impress.

    Our favorite restaurant

My husband and I have been going to Amarone for many, many years. We continue to go back when we are in the City because the food is always terrific and the service is wonderful!

    Mediocre at best.

Saturday night dinner service. Hard to relax or enjoy one's meal as the place is a madhouse. Staff running around in almost panic; all one can do is stare is dismay that it occurs to no one working here that the customer may want a relaxing evening meal and that we're really not interested in their drama. On to the meal itself. Started by making the mistake of ordering a martini (a lukewarm glass of vermouth - ugh!) -- the bread basket strangely had loose pieces of vegetables in it (?!) Ordered the special - a seafood black fettucini. How does one make this bland and flavorless? They know the secret. As I was dining alone, and rather saddened by this experience, I gave a look at the tables around me. Two women sat at the next table, staring dolefully at their food and picking at it, looking for something edible. Overall: bland, rushed, and overpriced. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.

    Excellent Food/Attentive Staff

This restaurant was recommended by a friend. A buddy & I were attending a Saturday night Knicks game & made the trek uptown from "The Garden" prior to the 7:30 tip off. We arrived at the restaurant around 5pm without a reservation & were seated immediately (no surprise for such an early arrival). The atmosphere was a bit dim for our purpose but would be ideal if there with our wives. Our waiter promptly took our drink orders & returned with our drinks & provided us with the specials. For an appetizer we ordered the fried calamari which was fantastic (crisp & light). Although we took our time reviewing the menu for our main course, we asked for bread for the table. The bus attendant could not be more apologetic for not bringing the bread sooner (really no need for the apology since most often bread is not brought to the table until after placing one's dinner order). As far as dinner, I had the veal gorgonzola which was magnifecent. The veal was tender & the gorgonzola cream sauce although zesty was not at all overpowering. My buddy had a chicken dish which I cannot recall that he equally liked. Both dishes came with a vegetable medley (which we both agreed was the best sauteed vegetables we have tasted & believe me I have eaten at some very fine restaurants both here & abroad in my 46 years) & mashed potatoes which were quite good. Also on the menu as an entree, was the risotto of the day (a four cheese risotto) which we ordered for the table to share (hey we're guys out without the wives, we're going to indulge). The risotto did not dissapoint, it melted in the mouth! With such a fine meal we would be neglegent not to take the time to enjoy some desert. The tiramisu was second to none (don't even bother looking any further on the desert menu!). The check? A reasonable $132.00; Considering we had four drinks, an appetizer, three entrees, two deserts and two cups of coffee. The wait staff was extremely attentive without ever seeming overbearing. All in all, a fantastic dining experience, excellent food, reasonable prices & a very competent, friendly & attentive staff. After speaking with the owner we were invited to have a drink at the bar on him. However, we had to decline to attend another grueling Knicks loss!

Noisy but food was very nice

I made a reservation about an hour before we were due and was surprised and delighted to find a table for 6 was availale for 6.15; we had theatre tickets for 8pm. Restaurant was busy and almost full when we arrived and thus was quite noisy. It is dimly lit so would be romantic if it wasn't busy and thus very noisy. Service was attentive without being obtrusive. Five of us ordered a pasta dish and one the sole; all delicious. I was told their portion sizes were suitable for 1 person when I was ordering my meal to share with my daughter and so we each ordered our own and yes they are exactly right for 1. Our Pasta dishes were all in the $15 range which I found to be normal for this type of restaurant. A short, easy walk to Winter Garden theatre so perfect for our needs. We were in and out of there in an hour but then we didn't have starters or desert.
