    Good but...

Not great. This place is good and reliable. I enjoy this place everytime I've been and if you're in the area, I highly suggest it. Is it a destination restaurant coming from downtown? No.

    Birthday Hot Spot!

The food's great and the location is prime. If you do decide to go, make sure you take someone whose having a birthday--they put on quite a show!

    A Must For Us

We come to New York at least twice a year and eat lunch at Amaranth at least once each visit. Same spread each time: Stuffed foccacia, artichoke salad, tuna tartare, steak tartare, frito misto and other salads. We go with a group and share all of this..........love the relaxed atmosphere and interesting people. This from a group who frequents Per Se, Esca, Le Bernadin and other foodie haunts.

    Too Loud!

We happened to stroll by this attractive restaurant 2 days ago. We found that the food was pretty good, the service was interesting (never fails... get some water and ! ice cubes on your pants at the same time), but the NOISE! It was pratically unbearable - at 2PM on a Tuesday afternoon. We walked out and were in a daze for a long time. I would not go back unless they remove the TONS of tables they have - and add some sound proof articles!

    Good food, but....

Four of us all had seafood dishes that were very good, but it ends there. The room, when full, is very noisy and the service was spotty at best. The physical layout is pleasant enough but unless it is raining (I live in the neighborhood) it will be a while before I try them again.
