I've been here three times - and each time has been better than the last! The bacon-wrapped dates were to die for (we ordered two servings) as was the chorizo-wrapped shrimp. The sea scallops were delicious, and I enjoyed the spaghetti dish tremendously. Its a good thing the portions aren't huge, because you should try as much as you can here. For Manhattan, it's pretty reasonable, although it is advisable to not be completely ravenous when you go (it really is a tapas-only kind of place). My dinner date and I ordered a moderately priced bottle of wine and shared six or so tapas and the bill was around 85 bucks. An excellent [select]ion of red wines. The staff is cool about letting you eat linger over your meal too - you won't find the get-out-now turnaround you do at Nobu or a similar place. Highly recommended - I can't say enough good things.

Everything was great. Romantic ambiance but good for groups too. Went with a group of 6 - had about 15 plates. All were terrific! Favorites were the dates and olives wrapped in bacon. Brussel sprouts as someone said was also great. Great combinations of flavor, ingredients were fresh. Had a sangria which was lovely as well. Service was attentive and they bring the food out quickly! Really a terrific place. Definitely going back!

Ok, atmosphere, excellent for a date. Service, no complaints... attentive without being overbearing. On to the food... Fried Goat Cheese was tasty, but nothing really surprising. You got what you ordered. Lamb Meatballs were good with an interest taste... somewhat nutmeg... whatever it was, it worked and was not typical. Brussell sprouts were crispy, yet tender and sweet.. excellent dish. The duck with fois gras... best dish there. Was amazing. Dessert had the rice crispy treats... the emhpasis was on the cream, not the rice crispies, which was good. Flight of white wine dessets.... also good (not that I am a wine expert). Total for 4 dishes, 4 drinks, 1 dessert, and 1 flight of wine, plus tip was $120. Over all, excellent and will be back.

I went to Alta a week ago for my birthday with a group of 10. We ordered the whole shebang (the entire menu) and had a GREAT time eating and passing the dishes around. Everyone found something on the menu that they really enjoyed - I loved the pasta with foie gras emulsion, my fiance was obsessed with the mussels and others couldn't stop raving about the spiced cashews and various other dishes. Everything I tried was tasty and several of the tapas definitely merited a revisit. This doesn't even take into account the fact that the restaurant has an amazing and intimate feel. One of my friends actually couldn't stop raving about how she wants to get married there. Overall, I loved it.

This place has AMAZING service! Echoing the last review, went there last night with 3 of my girlfriends, and we had to wait an extra 25-30 minutes past our reservation to get seated - not a big deal, it's new york, everything and everybody runs late-but as compensation, they gave us complimentary glasses of champagne. Food that we ordered was delicious (the fried goat cheese w. lavender-infused honey is phenomenal!). My friends got the paella, squid, shrimp... About an hour into our meal, the manager sat next to us and asked a huge favor: if we could relocate two tables down because a huge party was coming so they needed the space so, AGAIN to compensate, they brought out, drum roll please, SEVEN complimentary dishes and a round of drinks!! No joke-you read that right kids! It just kept on coming and coming manager came back several times to make sure we were okay. The spaghetti is mixed with great spices and is HEAVENLY (just wish it wasn't tapaswanted bigger portion!) the fried smoked mozzarella is divine, with a yummy tangy dipping sauce. And, surprisingly, the crispy brussels sprouts with a hint of sweet with the fuji apples were perfect! Unexpectedly top notch service..felt like royalty! Don't know if I'll ever have an experience like that again. Such a fun, cozy restaurant, great set up, very spanish/euro feel. I'm one super satisfied customer. Will definitely be going back soon!

I went to Alta with a group of four girls and we absolutely loved it..one of the owners gave us a round of drinks (sangrias which were awesome) on the house simply for having to switch tables...the food was delicious and the ambiance was a great time, especially for a group of girlfriends. We will definitely visit again!

This was our first and last time at Alta. After making a reservation, we were treated terribly at the door by the snooty host. The ambiance was nice, but when a 20 person bachelorette party sat down next to us, we asked to move to the second floor or to one of the side rooms because of the noise. We were treated even worse at this point, with the host asking "why" whie sighing, after we had told her exactly why. Meanwhile the place was empty aside from that table so am not sure what the attitude was for. We finally got reseated and the service was slow, food was ok but nothing extraordinary. The bill took even longer to come and by that time we couldnt wait to leave. There are plenty of other tapas places in this city where you do not feel they are doing you a favor by letting you eat in their restaurant
