I had a friend in from out of town and we found Alta - what a great time! The tapas are amazing, although portions are somewhat small, but quality is great. The chef really has creative and super tasty dishes (I highly recommend the Coca). And the wine list is perfect - service attentive and super helpful without being pushy at all. I can't wait to take someone else! Like the others say - def try to sit in the balcony.

You can't beat the atmosphere at this restaurant--great for a romantic night out...with the cathedral ceiling in the main area and candlelight, it's like entering a whole other world when you walk through the doors. yes, it can be expensive if you bring a big appetite, but they have a tasty selection of tapas, with something for everyone. they also offer inventive cocktails that change with the seasons. overall, one of my favorite restaurants in new york--a unique and stylish hideaway, without the attitude....

Went to this resturant on a random weeknight, because I had heard good things. I was told to get the bacon wrapped appetizer, it was disappointing! It appears inexpensive but the portions are so ridiculously small that you have to order so much that it becomes expensive. The food was poor and I would notgo back. The only posiitve thing about this place was the cute atmosphere.

I went here with two of my best friends and we couldn't have been more pleased. The atmosphere was fantastic...for a group or for a date. The fireplace is adorable and we were seated right in front of it. Super cool. The balcony area rings the main lobby and is perfect for tables of two. Enjoy this place!

Moderately-priced wine, and really nice dining room... especially if you can nab one of the upstairs tables that overlook the main dining area. i did, and had a bird's eye view of what everyone else was eating. overhyped: the brussel sprouts. favorite: braised rabbit with squid ink pasta overcooked: steak with xxx (green) sauce undercooked: risotto spent about $120 (including tip and a bottle of wine) for myself, my cousin and her boyfriend. pretty good...but it would've been a lot more if we were really hungry. as an aside, does anyone know if rabbit is red or white meat?

Went for dinner on a Thursday night after making reservations only a few hours earlier in the day. Restaurant was wonderful. Sat in the upstairs balcony area overlooking the main dining room below - ask for a table up here if possible, ambiance is amazing. Food was delicious and interesting - lamb meatballs and the scallop dishes especially. My boyfriend and I shared 6 plates, left sated but not stuffed. Cocktails are strong, not for the faint of heart. Wouldn't recommend for vegetarians or finicky eaters but if you're adventurous and want a fantastic dining experience, head here!

I've been here twice, both times in larger groups. Everyone loved everything we ordered. It was nice being with a group of people because we ordered a whole bunch of dishes and shared everything. The tuna was unbelievable. Atmosphere is nice - there is an upstairs and downstairs. When we sat downstairs, we were on couches, which was a bit difficult. Upstairs we had a normal table, which was great. Service was quick and friendly.
