the food here was fine, but the service was probably the poorest i'd ever seen in a city restaurant. no server was mean or disrespectful, but i do not exaggerate when i say they had no idea what to do. here are some examples: no one asked if we needed to be seated, when the table was vacated, no one cleaned it for almost 10 minutes, our drink orders were taken 10 minutes later, our food orders were taken another 10 minutes after that by a different waiter who had no idea who took our drink orders. Our drink orders arrived after our food, our main course went to another table. All in all, it was like being served by a team of disorganized high-schoolers.

Alpha may have the best happy hour deal in NYC; any draft beer for $2 until 7PM. My girlfriend and I went to see a movie at the Lowes theatre across the street, and the tickets to the movie were more than the sushi/drinks at Alpha. That can mean one of two things, great deal or horrific food. Luckily Alpha's case its a great deal matched with equally good food. I been to Alpha a number of times and have always enjoyed my meal. While I have yet to find a dish I do not enjoy, the sushi and dumplings are the highlight of the restaurant. The restaurant is small and cramped so expect to wait if you go with a party of 4+.

The food here is decent, it's clean and fresh as far as I can tell, so in that aspect it's good. However their sushi is very overpriced for what it is. Which is bland. And way too much rice is being used. The rolls are mostly rice with tiny pieces of fish in them, and just taste like rice. Their shrimp tempura roll is just a piece of fried shrimp with a ton of rice. Nothing else. No sauce, no vegetables, no flavor. There are much better deals to be had where you get much better prepared sushi for less money. And more of it too. Alpha is really like a last resort type of place for me. It's not on the gross and disgusting so never order from here list. It's still on the safe to order from list it's just not ranking high.

I decided to try somewhere new for lunch... what a great choice!! The lunch special is so reasonable, I felt a little nervous ordering sushi! I was afraid the quality would be poor. To my surprise, and relief, the sushi was fresh and is delicious! I got the spicy salmon roll and the yellowtail and scallion roll, a miso soup and a salad all for under 10 including delivery! Very impressed!

Everything here is delicious! Believe me..I'm a big foodie and frequently eat out. Additionally, the service is impeccable-friendly and conscious. Oops..how could I forget-the bartenders are great too! In all, the scene is fun and friendly. Make sure to try the vietnamese rolls and curries (delicious)! Sushi's excellent too :)

Alpha has become a neighborhood staple for me. I eat here 1-2 times a week. Literally everything I've had on the menu is amazing!! I have brought several friends here who now have become regulars as well! The owner and servers are so friendly and generous. The atmosphere is a lot of fun especially at night! Some of my fav dishes are spicy tuna tartlets, miso cod, sexy jimmy roll, duck spring rolls, chix lettuce wraps, golden dragon roll, etc, etc.
