so-so French food
My husband and I went here and were pretty underwhelmed with the food; every course was just so-so. My appetizer and entree were both oily and my husband's food was fairly bland. The service, however, was very good.

Good (not great) food, svc indiff.
My boyfriend and I had Christmas dinner here. I found the waitress to be a bit sexist. We were seated upstairs, near the stairs at 5 pm The waitress was very friendly to my boyfriend (we're both in our mid 50's and a bit zaftig, so I don't think looks were a factor), and cold and unfriendly to me. She ignored several of my requests and never brought me my take-home bag, despite 2 requests. The food was OK, but the portion was small. I waited tables for 12 years and usually leave over 20% but not this time. I also make the decisions about where we have holiday dinners. It won't be at Alouette again.

Oui Oui
As always, wonderful. The owner's presence enchants, the service is good, the food is wonderful, the atmosphere lovely, the value is astonishing. The wine list is absolutely fantastic - and overall one of my favorites in the city. Would like to see the service back to a bit more French and a tiny bit more attentive, but this is a detail most likely due to off summer months as in many NYC restaurant - ah New York, non Paree

Not so good.
For the $$, it was not very good. The salad was flavorless. The lasagna was greasy and small. The bread was good. The service was also good.

Pleasantly Suprised
Food and service excellent. The goat cheese tartlette was a winner as well as the onion soup, beet salad, duck and veal main course. The desserts were fresh and the pastry crusts crunchy and buttery. This place is a winner.

Divine food
We've been here twice and both times, everything we ordered was amazing. Last time, I ordered the salmon with Israeli cous cous, which was incredible (on the owner's recommendation I tried it medium rare, which would never have occurred to me but I figured she probably knows what she's talking about, and it was really the best salmon I've ever had). The wine recommendations were great, appetizer and dessert was awesome, and it has a great atmosphere. We'll definitely be going back.

Amazing French
The food here is always wonderful, fresh and well priced. The owner is very friendly and makes you feel as if you enetered a small little bistro. The only thing missing is a true french chocolate souffle.
