Fantastic View, Great Brunch, So-so rest
So, the deal with Alma is this: it has the best brunch in Brooklyn. The chilaquiles con huevos will blow your mind. And their salsa is one of the best I've ever had. Also, their view of Lower Manhattan is just plain amazing. Day or night, it's worth going here just for the view. Just make sure you sit on the roof deck (which is screened in and heated during the winter). Otherwise, this restaurant is just pretty good. I'd suggest brunch for great food, and then coming at night with a group of friends and having drinks and enjoying the view and not worrying about the fact that your dinner while good is not wonderful.

Camarones Asados muy yum
I have gone to this restaurant several times now. It's a little pricy, and kind of a pain to get to, but the food is great. Definitely sit on the upstairs patio. You get a nice view of the city across the river. I highly recommend the Camarones Asados. They come with garlic aoli and a mango salsa. They pretty much rule. After dinner you can hit Moonshine a few blocks down on Columbia for some cheap beer, old country, darts, and pool. Makes for a great evening out in BK.

Undecided
The first time we went was in January for dinner... the food was absolutely nothing special (especially from what we were expecting) and my margarita was downright not good. The service was also just slow all around. Then, last weekend we went for brunch. Amazing! Our food was delicious, our waiter was perfect... I'm not sure if the difference lies in the time of day, or the time of year... or just luck. Not sure I'll waste my money trying dinner again, but would definitely recommend brunch.

Delicious Mexican
This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in NY. The enchiladas are amazing- perfectly spicy and they come with refried beans that aren't too greasy. The fajitas are delicious and most of the brunch items are good too- the poached eggs with tortilla strips is perfect hangover food. If you stick to the classics, Alma is great.

A great view, but
The view from the deck area is amazing. But the $9 guacamole that is pre-made (but supposed to look as if they just made it) is unfairly priced. Rushed service and sloppy big plates. The place has gone downhill.
