Ali Baba Turkish Cuisine

We order from Ali Baba's at least once a week and it has been deicious, but we went there last night for dinner and it was subpar. The hummus had so much garlic in it, my mouth was on fire. The lamb and chicken dishes we ordered had no seasoning at all - they tasted like nothing. I don't know if there is a new cook there or it was just an off night, but it was disappointing all around. This is one of my favorite restaurants and I will definitely try it again - hopefully it was just one bad night.

Amazing assortment! I recommend all the cold appetizers, lahmacun (flat pide bread sprinkled with lamb, veggies, and spices), and the grilled kebabs. dessert also was great. service is very friendly and knowledgeable. Will definitely be going back.

We went for dinner a couple months ago. Food was good. Tender chicken, cold beer, can't complain. I agree with the other reviewers that the service can fall-off fast when the place is busy. Definitely one of the better Turkish places in Midtown/Gramercy. You probably will not be disappointed with the food...the service is more of a ?

What happened? This was one of our neighborhood favorites but on the last two trips to Ali Baba we were disappointed. The lamb shank was hard and cold on the inside - on both visits! The phylo rolls were too salty to eat. Although the service is usually very accommodating, it really becomes difficult to even order once the restaurant is busy. Last time, our waiter could not understand our order. We won't be back - something has definitely changed.

While not as known as Turkish Kitchen, Ali Baba has the best selection and quality Turkish food in New York.
