Disappointing
The restaurant has a great location and the food isnt bad at all. However, the service is atrocious and the food was terribly overpriced. We waited for an hour for our food when the restaurant was half empty. Our water glasses were never refilled and we could not get the attention of waitress who sat at a table with her back to the customers. They dont allow substitutions, so if you had dietary preferences you would end up ordering sides in addition to paying full price for the entree. No credit cards accepted making the twenty three dollars for three scallops seem even more outrageous. Too bad we were just walk ins and hadnt seen the poor service reviews!!

too big for its britches
i was disappointed too, and i won't be back. have to agree with the other reviewers here who described the poor service. it's a shame, because the food is alright and this place has potential. but the waitstaff seems genuinely bored and they're rude, for example even a roll of the eyes for a quick second description of the specials. on a thursday evening, with not even half the tables occupied, you'd think that, at the very least, you'd get someone's attention to sit down at a table. nope, not here. and the food was ok but overpriced. oh well, gave it a shot.

Delicious Food, Poor Service
We went to Alexandra for Brunch - the French Toast was phenomenal. However the service was not. They were slow and rude - in fact the staff were eating their own breakfast at the counter and totally ignored us. Even though the restaurant opened at 11:00, they made us stand outside until 11:15 before they would seat us, and no one else was even there. Service is extremely disappointing.

Poor service
The foor at Alexandra was excellent: unusual preparation of fried calimari was very good, burger delicious and cooked as ordered (med. rare). Although the water glasses were filled regularly, the waiter service was very inattentive. The waiter knocked a knife to the floor, picked it up, but never returned with a clean one. We asked for our bill three times. The restaurant was not crowded. One might expcet to see waiters in a bistro dressed smartly in clean, starched aprons. That was far from the case.

Sub-par service
Food and atmosphere was good, but the management needs to better train the staff.

A perfect neighborhood restaurant
This has become one of my favorite spots in the West Village. The food is consistently very good (excellent burgers!), and the atmosphere cozy and friendly. Don't miss the extraordinary calamari appetizer, which is among the best I've ever had in the city, cooked up in a delicious, lemony, garlicky sauce that you'll want to sop up with bread.

Good food, bad service
Lousy service which did not do justice to the very good food. Waiter was pushing us to leave and gave us very little attention during our meal. Although the food was very good, the prices were a bit high for what they offered. Cramped tables, very noisy. Hopefully, management will do something about the service because poor service can overshadow even the best food.
