    Great Restaurant with Neighborhood Feel

I can't remember where I heard about the place but picked it for a dinner party with friends. I arranged a set price fix menu from out of town. The owner and chef were very available and accomodating. When the dinner came, the evening exceeded my expectations. The staff was wonderful. We were treated fabulously - no rush, lots of attention. The food was outstanding (I'm very fussy) and in the end everyone was impressed with my choice. I've returned since and love this restaurant.

You have to try this place

I tried ALEO at the advise of friends, and I will certainly return. ALEO has a unique menu with some light dishes for those like my one friend who is calorie conscious. Me, however, I indulged. The food was terrific. I can till taste the pasta sauce now, and the people are great. I loved the garden, it reminded us of Tuscany. Seriously, give it a try. I think you will enjoy.

    Food not recommended

Ok. the bartender is very nice and made us some mean drinks. However the dining experience wasn't that spectacular for what we paid. The waitress was untrained and basically wanted us to order the minute we sat down and we were the only people in the whole back of the restaurant. The wine we ordered was good. However, they got my appetizer wrong and the lifeguard stew we ordered had about half the ingredients it listed and it was very bland for a $40. dish. One nice thing that because it was so empty we sat and talked for hours uninterupted.

    A Wonderful Evening

I came here on a date, after reading the reviews here, and it was great. We were treated like royalty. The food was fresh, and being Italian as was my date, we both agreed it was as close to Mom's and Dad's as possible. The bill was reasonable and the service was very friendly and attentive. I would definitely come here again.

Great Food - Great People - Great Place

I have gone to Aleo's on a number of occasions (on both dates or out with a couple of buddies), being a graduate student I have found it to be affordable and a great place to spend an evening. The friendly service, great atmosphere, and amazing food make this place a must go. I have tried a number of item on the menu and usually go with the almond crusted calamari (best I have had in the City) or mediterranean salad followed by some type of fish dish, usually the tuna. Either way it works out, after having a bottle of wine and dinner, I still have enough money left in my wallet to sit at the bar and conclude my evening at Aleo's or go out to the bars. So whether you are looking for a place to take a date or to start a night out on the town with some friends, Aleo's is the place to do it.

    Best Southern Italian in Manhattan

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere at this quaint and lovely restaurant. The antipasta, eggplant penne with ricotta, and dessert was simply delicious. We'll definitely be returning to this new gem in Gramercy Park. Although a little chilly now, we noticed the restaurant has a fabulous terrace hidden in back for warmer days.

    A Disappointment

We made reservations at Aleo after seeing it received a 24 for food in the Zagat's review. The meal, however, was quite poor. We had gummy and bland calamari to start. This follow by an overcooked tuna and a completely flavorless halibut. This place was about a quarter filled at 8 o'clock on a Friday night and I can see why. The room was fairly nice and the service was friendly even though our server could not prononce "pomegranate". Both fish dishes were $24 dollars which is pricey, especially since it was so bad. Skip it!
