My boyfriend and I had dinner at Alcala on New Years Eve for the first time and it was awesome. The food, service, atmosphere etc. Everything was great! We will for sure be returning.

I ate in the restaurant on Christmas Eve with a group of 8. Some in the group were quite demanding and the restaurant staff was extraordinarily patient and accommodating. . We all tried each other's food and it was excellent. The only disappointments were the country pork which was delicious but has much too much fat and the garlic chicken which was a little dry and not very garlicky. Everything else looked, smelly and tasted wonderful.

That's it. This is the place. If you want to know how is to eat in Spain, you don’t need to travel there. Just go to Alcala. I am originally from Spain, and I’ve been trying to find a real Spanish restaurant in NYC, and finally I found Alcala. The food is excellent, service great. It is a bit pricy, but considering the quality of food, it is fair.

A great little place for lunch. Took clients during weekday and had very fast, attentive service, in a clean, very presentable atmosphere. Having lived in Spain for close to a decade, I was pleasantly surprised to find this is authentic spanish cooking. It's not terribly regional, but then if you're taking someone who's not familiar with real spanish cooking, that's not a bad thing. Respectable wine list, and the owner made some good recommendations based on our order. I'll definitely be returning.

I am a regular costumer since more than one year. And I'm coming very offen to enjoy the fab environment. I'm from spain so i found in Alcala the place to feel like in home again. The food represents the spanish traditional cousine but above all the basque cousine like a reference. The Chef is considering one of the best spanish cooks in Manhattan. The service is nice. Familiar atmosphere and fine treatment. Ask them to recommend a good wine depending of the dish. Excellent selection in red and white wines from Spain. Location exceptional. Quiet area beside the U.N. building.

We had searched for a Basque restaurant in New York, and chose Alcala Restaurant expecting authentic Basque dishes. We found a variety of dishes, but all from Catalonia or central Spain, not the Basque taste. We were offered to sit inside or in the garden which just opened. Because the tables inside were too small for a party of 5, we chose the garden. The evening got colder and the garden was really uncomfortable, even as the restaurant personnel tried to help, there were no other tables available. Some dishes had a good presentation but the meat was really cold. A disappointing evening.

Alcala's food is very authentic. The new tapa menu is a treat.
