    3 times a month

Never had a problem with this place. The entire building orders from there. I like the service. I dont go there to talk the salads are great and consistent and the place is clean. When you go in its a madhouse sometimes but you're in and out. Delivery is fast. I think the drinks and chips are a lil pricey but then again the UWS has become the UES on the UWS. Lighten up. They are there to prepare your food not be your best friends. Anyone Ive ever given a menu to still eat there.

    Subpar Service- Better Choices

In this day and age I would rather shop at a store that respects you and appreciates your business. This store has rude cashiers who wished you would go elsewhere. SKIP this place until things change........ if ever.

    Good overall service.

I order from Alan's alot & have done so for 8 yrs at least once a week, just b/c I rotate btwn various places. I either order delivery or for pick up so that I dont have to wait on long lines and just go straight to the register & pay. I would say their service is good 90% of the time. It gets very busy during breakfast &lunch time, so Just call ahead if you are headed over there & dont like to wait on line or dont have the time. I prefer to go to a busy place where the food is always being eaten than an empty place where the food is always sitting around. I'm always sure to speak clearly over the phone to make sure they understand what I want to minimize errors. It's natural that they are going to make mistakes on occassion with them being as busy as they get many times. They are human, not robots! I do not see them commit any errors with orders that I have not also experienced in every other place that I order from. If you look at their menus there are numbers assigned to things. Telling them the # makes it easier &quicker for them &you. Customizing orders is always going 2b harder 2 remember. Its always good to know what you want ahead of time so that you can get in & out quick. Most of the time delivery comes within 15-20 minutes. There are rare occassions, however, when it can take an hour if they are extremely busy or short on staff. But that has happened to me just about every place I order at one time or another. They will normally tell me if its going to take long and then I'll just tell them to have it ready for pick up. I normally order an hour ahead of time regardless of where I order from if I want delivery by a certain time 2 allow room for the lunch rush hour delays. If you are going to pick it up then you can call it in 5-10 minutes before you are going to pick it up. The women at the register are serious but I've never had a problem with them & they have never been insulting to me. It's not easy dealing w/ difficult customers all day either. I dont consider the complaints that people have w/ them to be at such an extreme to not go there anymore, especially when I have seen the same things happen just about every place else I order from. There will never be 100% quality service 100% of the time regardless of where you go. Prices are good, food is good & the place is clean. Those are the most important things to me.

    2/27/08 - Gradual Improvement?

Generally, I agree with the negative reviews of the service. Today, however, I was treated with much more respect. I bought a cucumber to go along with my salad (it's cheaper that way than to have it put in your salad) and the lady was very impressed with my smart economic decision. She even asked me if I wanted salt for my vegetable! I was skimped a little with the onion in my salad. Otherwise, good experience today.

Good, if you can stand the yelling

I used to go here all the time when I first started work around the corner, but after a while, I simply couldn't take the rude cashiers anymore, and now I don't go as a matter of principle. Yes, the food is good and inexpensive, but you can find that at a lot of places in the area and still get treated with respect. It's funnyeveryone in my office knows about the rude cashiers, and so do the people who have posted here, but they are still working there, so either the management at Alan's doesn't care or they don't know. But they are losing business because of the way customers are treated therethey've certainly lost my business. So be warned: you'll get good deli food at prices that are good for Manhattan, but you just might also get treated like an idiot at the register.

    Beware of Salad Maker

I work a block away and go to Alan's for lunch all the time. I've recently stopped going because of the attitude I get from the salad maker. He just glares at me when I'm ordering as if it's the biggest hassle for him to make a salad. I also don't like the additional 75 cents per item. Good value otherwise though

    Quality Food

Alan's is a nice deli w/ good food for good prices. The salad bar is so fresh and they give you such a huge quanity for only 5 bucks and change and that's w/ tax included. The one thing or things that I don't like are the chicks behind the counter. It's like they are grumpy everyday, all day.
